How much rain can the 1N and the 3 handle without shutting down?

EOS 3 and EOS1n I can answer that question. I used both cameras recently at the Singapore airlines crash in Taipei, Taiwan recently during a typhoon. It rained so hard that I had to take shelter behind the emergency trucks just to shoot my pictures. Everything was drenched in water. The EOS 1n with it's extra seals held up fine and kept on shooting. But the EOS 3 got wet and the shutter went berzerk on me. I wasn't able to shoot many photos with it . If I just lightly pressed the shutter on the EOS 3 five frames would go off by itself or it wouldn't fire at all. My flash unit got wet as well and eventually just shut down. It had to be repaired later. So I can safely say that the 1N can handle typhoon conditions just fine.
