What about a challenge to "soup" up a car??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I think that a challenge to build a car built for pure power. Like for instance, a team would have to go out and find a car (engine in/out, whatever...), find the biggest and most powerful engine around and drop it in the car. At that point, they would have to find other peformance add-ons like exhaust, if possible turbochargers/superchargers, etc. I know, it might require a bit more time, but I imagine it could be fit in!! I would certainly love it!! Then for the test, Junkyard Wars would have a dynomometer (measures horsepower) and possibly a torque measurer, and the team with the higher horsepower/torque rating would win. I don't know. I am just typing what I am thinking. Plus, I love cars--especially powerful ones!!

Not a Bad Idea...maybe with some tweaking it can be a reality

One of the RPM type magazines (hot Rod I think) did a feature in spring of 2000 on a Chevette (Smallest Lightest Rear wheel drive car made in usa) with a Cadilac 500 Cubic inch engine(largest passenger car engine produced in USA). they built project for about 2000 usd. It would have made all Scrapheapers proud. It ran in the 10's!!?! in the quarter mile. remember all the JYW dragraces have been on the eight mile. I love this challenge. BIG cad 500 in a Vega. 460 ford in a Pinto. cars would be on scrapheap WITH Roll cage and fuel cell. the motors that ran would be low compression smog motors. but in the Yard would be old motors with the high compession heads and the non-egr intakes. There would be various cars with rearends capable of lasting behind these engines. these rearends (75 mustang 2 with v-6 come to mind) that would fit would be out there. get expert for vega from Hot rod mag and ford guy from 5.0 performance mag,. My god! what a show! engines in peices all over the garage floor.
