-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Being dominated by a team unable to score more than one0-0
cannot se us scoring more than 0
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Howay Pete man. A bit of optimism please.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
5-live says we're defending well. Frustrating Villa, Harper is on song, not creating much, Villa taking the initiative, but we're still very much in this game. Toon fans in good voice.C'mon me bonny lads
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Palace 1 Hackems 0 Clinton Morrison after a Rae cock-up. Hehehehee
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Well this is a one-man match thread at the moment but for anyone who cares here is the line-up;Harper, Griffin, Hughes, Marcelino, Goma, Acuna, Bassedas, Speed, Glass, Ameobi, Gallacher,
Subs:Given, Barton, Cordone, Lua-Lua, Gavilan
Good news, Southgate is off. Bad news, Speed is struggling and might have to come off.
Half-time.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Half TimeAston Villa playing much better football- 1st to most balls etc. Theyve had plenty of half chances and a couple of good ones- good saves by Harper and Glass on line.
Were defending well in general though but looking disorganized at the back. Only players of note=Amoebi+Harper- Marcellino the most committed and best player in the team tonight- no joke- good tackling and very determined heading.
5-3-2 aint working as usual and theyre getting down the right past Glass in particular. Need 4-4-2 back quickly. Our wing backs arent doing ANYTHING worthwhile so change it Bobby!
Nothing attacking of note from us. Bassedas not up to it though the occasional insicive pass from him. Gallagher rare opportunities to touch the ball. Speed not really in it. Acuna good work rate but in+out of it. Glass too busy tracking their right side attack. Goma +Hughes OK.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
i'm out here - and you're a life saver stevo. I've got exactly nowt connecting me to this match but me brain and this computer.....CHEERS!TOON! TOON!
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Min I've 5-live, crackly reception, fades in + out, but I'll keep you posted as best I can. Amazed how few of us there are. This is the Cup for Gods sake, and our only chance of a bit of silverware. No great match from the sounds of things, but I hope the lads are as fired up as I am. Still Palace 1 Mackems 0.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Good and fair description Spud!Evenin` folks - enjoying(?) the luxury of a televised match, but couldn`t resist say `hello`. I reckon it`s anybody`s guess who will win - though I think we should look a bit better in the second half when wor Bobby`s had a little chat.
HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (:o)
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Pretty grim so far - except, I suppose, that we're still in it.
Villa are just walking through our midfield and putting constant pressure on our defence, which although looking pretty disorganised, are at least getting tackles and blocks in. Glass looks lost at LWB, and Griffin isn't in the game very much either.Bassedas looks totally out of his depth, and Speed seems to be carrying a knock. Acuna is covering acres of ground, and is probably our best midfield player, but I'm afraid that's not saying very much.
Harper has made one great save from Stone (yes again!) and looked solid on crosses. Gallagher has flitted around to not much effect, while Ameobi has held the ball up well with no real support, and James has had nothing at all to do at all.
Pretty poor stuff, but we're still level with everything to play for in the 2nd half. Bobby looks totally brassed off.
Haway you Maggies!!
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Were the lucky ones Galaxy- good ol' TV! Actually your not missing much everyone :-) The importance of the game is keeping things ticking though.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Cheers Stevo, spud. Honestly, the f***ing FA - they complain that the Cup "isn't what it used to be" and the only way i can keep up with what's going on with my team from this faraway is through mates on a BBS! You don't know how grateful i am - beers all round....!
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Hope to take you up on that Min. What time is it in NZ? Speed is off, Barton is on, Barton Centre-Half with Goma and Marcelino, Hughes pushed up into midfield(?).Southgate off, Gareth Barry on. Second-half underway, still 0-0
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
We've come out attacking, Goma + Marcey both went up for a free kick, didn't in first half.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
It is takin me ages to get on this thing, I haven't been able to get into the server since me first post. Who's nearest the fridge? large whiskey..neat ta Howay the lads

Shit, Villa take the lead
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Merton cross, deflected by Barton, comes off Villa players thigh .
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Beers it is then - i'm off to the fridge.....;))10am here - the midweek game is a luxury lie in. Helps that i'm not working at the mo as well, mind.
TELL ME MA, ME MA.....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
man this thing is slow tonight.....by the sounds of it we are in serious trouble.....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Darius Vassel was the scorer. The lads waste a corner, and then a throw in.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
bollocks...
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Steve Coppell describes us as playing too one-dimensional, things we should switch to 4-4-2. Not enough attacking options. 10 minutes.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Wadsworth + Robson active on touch-line, the former described as 'drawing pretty pictures'!. Ameobi doesn't jump for a header, Glass gives it away, something needs to change.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Lua-Lua looks likes he is about to come on (for whom? Glass?)
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
...we WON'T be home for tea,Ahhm ganning to hoy mesel,
Off of the North Shields Pier....
HOWAY MAN, GET STUCK IN - FIGHT FOR IT!
TOON! TOON!
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
13 minutes, Villa looking the more like scoring. Centre-half on, Hendry sets Boateng up. Lua-Lua on for Glass. Switch to 4-3-3 with Griffin Left-Back, Barton Right-Back.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001

Lua Lua couple of very nice moves- more skill in them than the entire team put together all night- Gallagher nearly in on goal.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Any feeling for what the atmosphere is like?
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Game has become very open, a real cup-tie, passionate. I want to hear our fans.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Great chance for Vassel, missed I think (radio reception went Wonky). Second goal would have killed the game. It didn't, we just need one. C'mon lads.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Not really Steamer. Cordone coming for Gallacher. Straight switch.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
I WANNA BE A MAGPIE RANGER....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
I WANNA LIVE FOR SEX AND DANGER
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Harper rolls it out, Acuna, back to Harper, Harper kicks, Hendry heads it back, Goma clears, Villa keep possession, Stevo tears his hair out....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Villa keeping the ball, doing most of the attacking, haven't heard our forwards names mentioned for some time,
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
How do lads 'n lasses. Just made it in - so how's it looking now ?
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001

GO LEFT, GO LEFT....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
John 'Prince of Darkness' Gregory, moaning to lines-man. Again commended for our spirit. We're not creating much but we're not giving up. 14 minutes to go. Mackems still losing.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
GO LEFT RIGHT LEFT
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Vassel off (good ridance) Walker on for the Villa.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
GO RIGHT, GO PICK UP THE STRIDE....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Villa sitting back, poor crowd +/- 25, 000. Can hear the Toon fans now. We're attacking more. Free-kick in dangerous position. (Oh if we had Solano). 10 minutes to go. Cordone cross, Goma got on end. James saves.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
You have a loverly voice Min..........WE DRINK EX WE DRINK BROON...
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Complete mix-up between Stone and James, Lua almost profited. Hendry clean through, hits it wide. Chances both ends. HOWAY THE LADS. 8 minutes to go.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Villa are very nervous. Lua-Lua shoots from 25 yards out, over the cross bar. We're closer to a goal than we'ver ever been.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
WE'RE GONNA WRECK YOUR F***** TOON....IF YOU WANNA GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE, IF YOU WANNA GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE WEAR A BLACK AND WHITE BONNET WITH NEWCASTLE WRITTIN ON IT, IF YOU WANNA GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE...
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
I feel quite proud of the lads actually. Any feeling for who has played well?
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Lua-Lua runs at defence, looses it, Acuna lays it off Ameobi shoots well wide, no composure, Coppell 'they needed someone like Shearer for that sort of chance'.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
....not as LOUD as yours though syme....;)
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Villa fans refuse to give ball back, cheeting Brummey bastards.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Ye dare reet!!!!!! HERE THEY COME FROM THE TOON DRINKING NEWCASTLE BROON SINGING LALA LA LALA LALA
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Acuna and Marcelino have sounded good. Cordone hits its low, James saves it. We're missing a finisher now creating a lot. 2 minutes plus extra-time. Sunderland swine equalise at Palace
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Mackems take lead, + we're looking like being knocked out. Final minute.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
We're pushing everyone forward. Lua-Lua crosses to James. 3 minutes stoppage time
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001

Final whistle, cue mourning. Ladies + Gentlemen we are out of the FA Cup, I am gutted, but the lads sounded like they really gave it their all ........
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Shame, but not the end of the world.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Not completly unexpected, although I do wonder what it will do to our moral. Barton comes on, they score, I know it wasn't his fault but it just smacks of barton 4 years ago.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Cheers for all that Stevo. I suppose that's "concentrate on the league" thenIt means we have to finish high enough for a place in Europe, in case anyone was wondering....;((
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
I'm off to have a very stiff drink, Min, Syme, Steamer, Loony Tune, Spud, Clarkey, thanks for the company. I am close to tears here, the cup really matters to me. I guess thats our season more or less over. Some one cheer me up
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Hugely spirited last 15 mins of the game- we pushed forward too late and the ball just didnt fall for a decent shot on goal. Acuna in particular got forward and made a big difference- Bassedas looked much more useful in the holding position. Lua showed hes definetly a biggie for the future- improved holding and passing the ball but the final ball not coming off. Missing first team players finaly caught up with us im afraid.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Ouch!!!!!! That was painful!!!!! Have to give the lads their due though, they did pick up the pace and they were really trying in the second half. Just wasn`t coming together for them - not suprising with a cobbled together team. Still hurts though, Bobby`s face said it all. (:o!Highlight of the night? I do believe I saw a close up of our very own Sting! Anyone confirm the sighting? (:o)
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Fighting second half - about all you can say reallyUnlucky goal to concede
Could have earned a draw
didnt
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Stevo - indebted to you for typing all that and keeping us updated. With no TV, radio etc i owe you several pints next time i'm over...Well, you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Witha full compliment of players [injuries and suspensions] we'd have done it, but perhaps it's whisper *what we need*. More games we can do without - at least til we get everyone fit enough to take the field. We fight on, we bounce back. We live to fight another day. Starting on Saturday.....
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
Sting was on the telly....Clarky stayed at home!!!Beaten by a fluke goal - SEASON NOW OVER! MOTM? Probably Acuna - edging out Marcelino.
Utterly, totally, inconsolably depressed.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
PS: Speed and Glass came off with calf injuries. If FIFA and UEFA keep f@rting around, Michael Chopra will be turning out for us before too long - perhaps even Bobby Wimbush as well
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
PS: Speed and Glass came off with calf injuries - just to cheer us all up!If FIFA and UEFA keep f@rting around, Michael Chopra will be turning out for us before too long - perhaps even Bobby Wimbush as well.
-- Anonymous, January 17, 2001
