How about a saw mill challenge. The idea would be for the two teams to come up with the design that would create the most board feet of a given size from similar logs. The nice thing about this challenge is there could be several different approaches. One would be the "Snidely Whiplash" buzz saw while another could be an oversized chainsaw. You would probably have to seed the yard with the saw blades and chains but driving the cutting device and the log conveying equipment would be up to the teams to work out.

This would work. Instead of chainsaw use bandsaw. saw a mill made with car tires on hubs to turn bandsaw blade. simple enough to make

I was thinking chainsaw only because there are several different chainsaw based rigs used for in-field log milling. The idea that you could find a 'junked' chainsaw would fit in with the show. Again, the idea of comparing pushing a log through a blade versus pulling the chainsaw through would be very interesting. Just a thought.
