Al-D,
"when you put others down--you put yourself down".
That is so true. There was a time when people did not think it was normal to hear one person belittle another. But through the media, it became used as a form of humor, the next generation, which was not brought up understanding it was humor, copied the methods so that today, young people think it is normal social behavior. What they do not realixe is that by putting others down they are showing themselves to be so insecure about themselves that they NEED to belittle others in order to be "superior" to them and give themselves a false sense of superiority.
So when you hear someone who constantly puts others down, you know they do not feel good about themselves.
