Rear Filter Reflections

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

I've been using rear filters for three years in two of my outer bay lenses with no problems(aside from the inconvenience). But, on a recent trip I noticed a light area right in the center of the slides when using an uncoated polarizer. I guessed that since the filter was in the optical path and not in front of it, it was reflecting light forward and then back to the film. So, I bought a muticoated polarizer so that should solve the problem. Having a coated filter in the optical path is more important than having a coated filter up front. When an uncoated filter is up front, the light bounces harmlessly away from the optics but if it's in the rear, there is potential for trouble. SR
