Do you visit other Forums regularly? Please share which ones, the topics covered and how active it is. This one is great and really active. I use to visit Mrs. Survival on a regular basis, but after Y2k passed it wasn't very active and I lost interest. So what else is out there? Thanks,

Nancy check out WWW.Backwoodshome.com But Countryside is by far the best. God Bles.

-- tracy emily in TN (emilyfarms@tsixroads.com), January 12, 2001.

Backwoodshome is a poor site, mostly gossip and weather reports. Rarely anything of substance. Also the intelligence level is quite low - they instigated a sign in policy to prevent "nasty" remarks. It took weeks for some to figure out how to sign in and then only with much help of the Site Master.

Look under Information Exchange for the forum.

This is a British magazine similar to Countryside. I always enjoy seeing what concerns people in other countries and their solutions.

I visit several other forums -mostly on EZboard.

Here are the ones I like

TB2000 is alive and well. Didn't die down after y2k. Mostly news, some preps.

http://pub5.ezboard.com/fyourdontimebomb2000.html

Abundant living is nice and homey - more Christian based. Several forums with in it.

http://pub42.ezboard.com/babundantliving

Inner Connections - for those on a spiritual journey.

http://pub26.ezboard.com/binnerconnections

Currents - Has several discussions - newsy type stuff and some other. Does need a password.

http://pub15.ezboard.com/bcurrents

Country Haven multiple discussions on various aspects of country living.

http://pub10.ezboard.com/bourcountryhome

All of these boards have a nice group of people and are very friendly and helpful.

I've been trying to drum up more regulars for my own website and forum, "The Almanack". It's like an online version of a paper farmers almanack. Stop by and have a look!

http://www.thealmanack.com

-- Brett Elliott (webmaster@thealmanack.com), January 12, 2001.

Hillybilly: In defense of JLS, methinks not. I used to be a semi- regular there at BWH but this is by far the best forum going, both for content and ease of use.

-- john leake (natlivent@pcpros.net), January 12, 2001.

Thanks John, but it was someone names Willy Allen not Hillbilly. The Backhome site is very easy to sign into, all you need is a VALID email and a screen name. I agree with John in that I also was a regular visitor for a while, finally got tired of the gossip.

-- JLS in NW AZ (stalkingbull007@AOL.com), January 13, 2001.

I really liked Brett's site www.thealmanack.com

I can't get there from home (@#&&*^% computer, anyway!) and since changing jobs, no longer have internet access at work as a way to get there. It's a bunch of real nice folks. Plus there is a lot of moon info and a calendar and lots of other stuff to look at. Go take a look - don't think you'll be disappointed!

Other forums? What other forums? There are other forums?

-- Soni (thomkilroy@hotmail.com), January 13, 2001.

John L, the BWH forum can be set up to follow the same format as this one. If you go to preferences on the forum, you can set it up to view as this one does.

Thanks for the sites! One I visit is VEGSOURCE. It's got a lot of boards for varied topics, but the ones I visit are to find used homeschooling materials for sale. Just go to Vegsource.com God bless,

-- Nancy in CA (sonflower35@icqmail.com), January 13, 2001.

I like garden.com also. I TON of different subject and the info level is just as varied.

Ok, I know I am asking for trouble with this, but I am free to state my opinion and contradict you, am I not???

1. We have quite a bit more than just weather reports at BWH. Then again, perhaps you think the weather (including winter weather) doesn't effect your crops or animals????

2. No one had a problem trying to "figure out" how to sign in. There is a restriction to the sign in that prohibits "web based" email addresses. THIS is what prevented or delayed some folks from coming back to BWH. NOT STUPIDITY AS YOU SUGGEST.

3. Gossip??? Sorry, I haven't heard any gossip at BWH yet. If I hear about what someone's neighbor is doing with their sheep late at night, then I will consider a piece of information "gossip".

4. The "nasty remarks" was actually someone posting profanity for no purpose whatsoever, other than to instigate a "mob reaction". This person was "impersonating" (Please look that one up dear, you apparently need to.) some of the good folks at the forum and we had to resort to close examination of each and every thread to decypher it's originator. Would you approve of someone coming here and pretending to be you and saying profane things and suggesting lude actions with both animate and inanimate objects??? It isn't nice or legal for anyone to do this to you in real life! Why should we put up with it on the net??? Would you just stand there and watch if someone went through your home town claiming to be you????? Do not claim that these are different situations, because in fact, they are not. It is still "impersonation".

The list goes on as to why I frequent Backwoods Home vice Countryside. I enjoy Countryside Magazine immensely, but I must admit, I can rarely stand to peruse the forum here. Too many elitists.

Do not judge lest ye be judged. As far as intelligence goes, I have a 125gt score in the Marine Corps. I read on a college level, and I had my pick of nearly any job in the military. I had no score too low for any job that is open to women. In fact, I was harassed over my higher intelligence. The average gt score in the Marine Corps is 75. I have all this, and only have a highschool diploma from a AAA rated country public school. I also have a really handy skill. This is being able to read just about anything and put it to pratical use, and even alter the instructions to make them better, all in the first try.

Have a nice day! :o)

By the way...

"...only with much help of the Site Master."

"...only with help from the site master." or "...only with a great deal of help from the site's webmaster."

Site master and webmaster are NOT proper nouns, therefore, should only be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence.

As far as your grammar is concerned...where do I begin???

-- My full name??? Uh, how 'bout just Dorothy! (bentpennyranch@yahoo.com), January 14, 2001.

Well, it didn't post the full quote! Hmmmmmm Interesting. All it posted was the part that stated who posted the post I was quoting! Well, I'm not trying again. There is enough information there for everyone to figure out the post to which I refer.

-- Dorothy (bentpennyranch@yahoo.com), January 14, 2001.

Also in EZ groups, the RunningOnEmpty and energyresources boards. Energyresources is an invitation-only forum, but the files are open. ROE is open to all with the usual EZ-Board registration. I also like the wonderfully nicknamed Glitch Central, AKA Grassroots Information Coordination Center, here on Greenspun for its comprehensive energy coverage. Gee Dorothy, good thing the Corps didn't give you an arrogance test. Your high score on that probably would have meant an automatic discharge. BTW, "it's" is the contraction for "it is." The possessive form is spelled "its" ... dear.

-- Cash (cash@andcarry.com), January 14, 2001.

OK, so I posted before the second cup of coffee. I meant egroups, not EZ Board, for RunningOnEmpty (http://www.egroups.com/group/RunningOnEmpty) and energyresources. Mea culpa.

-- Cash (cash@andcarry.com), January 14, 2001.

Cash, first of all, thankyou for the correction. I am notorious for not paying attention when it comes to it's and its. I have even seen the posessive form spelled its'. You will please note that I said "I READ on a college level", not "write on a college level". Was I arrogant for helping my military co-workers with their confusion, questions, or problems when they asked?? If I didn't know the answer, I helped them find someone who did. When I asked them a question they did nothing but scream and call me stupid. Was I arrogant in spelling their words for them when the dictionary was setting less than a foot away from them? Was I arrogant when they spread lies about me and mocked my score, claiming to be superior to me?? Was I arrogant when I continued to help them and even tried to save them money when it came to their car repairs and they ignored me anyway? Was I arrogant when they stole my mail and my medical record??? Was I arrogant when they illegally inspected my home out on town??? Was I arrogant when they drove me nearly to ulcers??? Was I arrogant when I was ordered to scrub the bathroom floor with my toothbrush just because they didn't like my frugal ways, my book and life knowledge??? This is the reason they did this to me, they admitted it fully and were proud of it. If you consider me arrogant for all of this, for having some experience in life, for having survived some really rough times with no food, no heat, no home without the assistance of welfare, then arrogant I must be. I really would like to know what you would call the people I had to put up with though. I never claimed to be the smartest person in the world, or even at BWH. I posted some of my credentials as an example and an example only. I do consider a great many of the BWH folks smarter than myself. This is why I look to them to answer my questions. I have seen and been through much more in my life than just this. I have seen incest, sodomy, and rape amongst children before I was 10. My neck was nearly broken when I was five when my hair got caugt in a small engine and was yanked backwards head first into the hot engine. I was emptying my sister's dirty cloth diapers and rinsing them out getting them ready for the laundry when I was 5 years old, I have been made responsible for my sister ever since. This list goes on and on, but I won't bore you with it. You'll still believe the same thing that you believed before, and I really don't care. The only reason I even posted was to defend people I care about. I really don't care what you think after this, and if you think me arrogant for having gained some knowledge through all of this, then so be it. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

-- Dorothy (bentpennyranch@yahoo.com), January 14, 2001.

I think the main difference between BWH and this board is the people who post over at BWH think for themselves and many are Libertarians. At this post many, not all of course, are liberals and want the government to help them out anytime things get a little tough. At this post, political correctness if of utmost importance, which is OK if you think that way, and over at BWH people pretty much say what they believe even if it offends somebody.

I enjoy both sites and I'm sure I've pissed off people at both boards. But I hope I've made a few friends too.

It's gotten me in hot water before, but most of you regulars here know it's isn't often when somebody says, "Uh Joe, I don't understand just what you're saying".

A very good site is www.countrylife.net. It is a site connected with Lehman's.
