NEED HELP! HAVING PROBLEMS RUNNING A VCD ON MY COMPUTER!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread
Hello, I have a computer that runs on Windows 98. I just recently bought a VCD and it will not play on my computer. I have tried to download the I-Video plug-in (didn't work) and I tried it on Windows Media Player (did recognize the file). What am I doing wrong? Am I missing a certain decoder or program for my computer? The VCD I bought was called Japanese Transformers 2000 (it is an official one, not a copy). From what I understand, it is supposed to be able to play on Windows Media Player without any problem, but it won't. If anyone has any tips, I would love to hear it. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about your VCD, I would be you just don't have the right program to view it. I've had that same problem with some dvd and vcd on my PC drive, but then I tried Power DVD by Cyberlink and it seemed to handle all formats quite well.

This question cropped up on http://pub45.ezboard.com/bvcdfans. Have a look at the answers.
Most DVD players will play them - ironically the original version of media player will play nearly all vcd's!!!!

Vcds don't auto run - they need to be opened in media player - find the MPEGAV folder select to show all files and choose the .dat files - usually called avseq01.dat or music01.dat. What vcd are you trying to play?

You may need to download a vcd specific player free from the net if media player doesent recognise the cd you attempt to use, some versions do not automatically include necessary files for mpeg but downloading a new mpeg player will provide access to your pc of these needed files then you should find windows media will play vcd also make sure to select all files from the drop down menu on the open file window so as to display a list of tracks so you can select which one to run (ie. File.. Open.. Browse.. All File Types).
