New Ideas

2, possibly new, ideas for JYW:

1. A digging machine. Build a machine that can dig a hole in the ground to recover something "planted" there before (like the team flag buried in a box 4 feet deep). To make it interesting, "plant" several items to be recovered. Don't let it be an old fixed up back-hoe, something "new".

2. A crane. Build a crane to retrieve the team flag off of a high (10 feet) platform. Better yet, retrieve something fragile, like a half dozen eggs, and bring them "safely" down to the ground.

In the US, JYW runs spots with Cathy making a request for new ideas so there are a couple.

Have teams build a home made tow truck . make it where they have to use it to retrieve something ,like a car or something like that which would be an intresting show .

A new idea--a walking machine that can race with no wheels.

Have teams build a lifting machine able to lift a 1000lb bolk up 10 feet and over 10 feet, Build either a hoist or a crain.

I think large fighting robots or a fighting machine of some sort would be interesting in the sense there are all sorts of science that could be talked about in relation to any sort of fighting robot/machine.

Teams build an eathmover. The teams that move the most dirt in a specific amount of time win. Teams could build small and fast machines to move small amounts quickly or a large heavy machine to move large amounts. Weigh the dirt to determine the winner.

Evidently I was thinking what James King was thinking. The challenge would be to two move 50 percent of a pile of dirt twenty feet to a target location. This permits the mechanism to leave behind, and lose enroute, 50 percent of the original pile. The piles would srart with equal cubic feet of dirt. Weight would determine when 50 percent of the orginal pile reached the target location.

Additional Idea: A Catapult-style launcher capable of hurling objects in the 50 pound range at a target (possibly a concrete block hut?) and destroying it. Each team gets a reasonably unlimited supply of projectiles. First team to demolish the target to the satisfaction of the judge(s) wins. Might be a nice change of pace from the recent big engine verses little engine contests.

My second suggestion involves water. The device must extract water from a water source and shoot it, filling four open steel drums twenty feet away. Each team member in relay fashion would uses the mechanism to fill a drum. The mechanism must remain stationary during the contest.

I suggest a machine to remove a 1000 lb. stone that is setting in a hole in the ground. The stone sets half above and half below grown level. The stone must be removed and placed on a 3 ft. high platform 30 ft. away.

My Idea is to build a Fire Truck that can race from a fire station in town to a small house on fire a mile or two away, put it out and return to fire station before the other team. One who makes it to the station first is the winner. (sirens and lights included).

I would like to see huge model rockets with big rocket engines, with built up launch pads made of good old steel! or More Radio Control Airplanes with with full function 4 channel and (elevator, aileron, rudder and throttle) taking off from an actual airfield with video camera mounted for actual live feed while in flight. You could do dog fights and or combat manuvers! Heck, you could even launch a rocket to blow it out of the sky!

Make a skid-steer vehicle! It could be 4 or 6 wheel drive or even tracks! In the end, have to navigate an off-road course.

Swamp Buggy!

you mentioned a crane? how about a challenge to rescue an object of the side of a cliff. To make it a little more of a challenge have the object in a 5 or ten foot cave. Solutions: build crane with hooks . use a tube or suction tube like the kind they use to clean dust out of power plants use a cable with strong magnets or electro magnets to retrieve the object. use a cable with hooks then a kite or balloon to bring up

I think you should make remote control planes and race them. the track could be 100 miles long. that's it.
