Washington's Natural Gas Prices May Soar

OLYMPIA, Wash. (KPTV) -- The whole state of Washington could see soaring natural gas prices starting this Friday, if the state's regulating commission approves the price hike.

Puget Sound Energy, Avista Corp. and Cascade Natural Gas asked for the price hike, which will result in a $13 to $15 dollar per month increase for residential and commercial consumers. The three utilities serve around 860,000 customers in Washington.

None of the extra money from from the price hike will become profit, but will cover increasing power costs.

The commission is scheduled to meet Thursday to decided on the price increase, which would go into effect Friday if approved.
