oops another fool--hits the wall!! so who gets all his goodies????

Well Al, see that is a very simple answer. The state will get his goodies, via estate taxes, IF he left no will. Probate.

The devil will most likely get his soul, no?

Consumer, you said,

The devil will most likely get his soul, no?

Not to nitpick or anything, but that's not for *AL* to decide.

okay frank, so, um, then, you decide.

just kidding. But what says the word?

Consumer,

Actually, Bible-thumping isn't my "thing", but, well, I can give it a shot. :-) Here's an OT, a "know our place", and a NT quote or two for the day.

Ecclesiastes 11

8 For if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity. 9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10 Remove vexation from your mind, and put away pain from your body; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

Jude 1

8 Yet in like manner these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones. 9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." 10 But these men revile whatever they do not understand, and by those things that they know by instinct as irrational animals do, they are destroyed.

1 Corinthians 4

1 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself. 4 I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then every man will receive his commendation from God.

2Corinthians5

So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil, according to what he has done in the body. 11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.

I tried to put enough text around them to give them context, hope it makes sense.

Strange I should feel I have to say it, but I don't mean to offend anyone here.

Ah Frank, who cares IF you offend someone? There is plenty to be offended about. Let em pick on somethin else.

Actually I was wondering about the text that goes along with the man Al-d mentioned.

Thou fool this night thy soul shall be required of thee.

Makes you wonder, eh?

Consumer,

Sorry, I guess I missed the boat on that one. I think you meant Luke 12 (Incl. below). The hard part for me would be defining what really is greed vs. saving for your family's welfare? Or can you really NOT be greedy without being *vain* about your humbleness? One thing's for sure, the more one thinks about it, the more there is to improve. BUT, is perpetually trying for "self-improvement" yet another false path? An apparent *means to an end* that for some people becomes and *end* in itself rather than their original goal of getting closer to God? It's getting late in the day... (Hopefully, not late in THE day....)

"When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say." 13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." 14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 He thought to himself, `What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' 18 "Then he said, `This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."' 20 "But God said to him, `You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." 22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
