Snow Anyone??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

Everything In JYW is all based in nice weather, California climate weather. I live in Jamestown NY and we have some pretty ruff winters around here. It would be nice to see a epesode were the team makes a snowmoblie or snow traveling machine. But its probly to cold for the yuppie producers............or is it??

Or alternatively,

See who can design a snowblower that can clear the greatest amount of snow the fastest! Say two 50-ft long driveways with 25" of snow on them... Like what got dumped on Buffalo where I am last Novemver. =)

How about a snow blower, self propeled blade?

As the sites where they actually compete with the machines is I imagine semi-close to the scrap yard the teams would have to build in winter. I would imagine a few problems would be:

-Gathering the right parts in a snow covered yard (indoor scrap heap? ouch) -Effects of the cold on the participants (It's hard enough now for them to finish in 10 hours now) -Effects of drastic temperature changes on metal objects -Lack of enough challenges to perform in winter (they have to be really creative to keep coming up with different challenges) -Added danger that ice and snow bring to moving objects -You can't predict when you are going to get dumped on... and what if your challenge melts in a freak heat wave.

Adam Valvo sounds like he's scared to go out in -1C weather. First this is still a good idea. If you can't bare the cold, get a snow machines to produce the snow in a shaded area. Or be a man and go out in cold. I've worked outside doing 12 hour shifts in bitter cold Saakatchewan winters; dress for it!

Sorry my previous submission was aimed towards "Smack" and not "Adam Valvo". Sorry Adam!

You could always use fake snow like they use in the movies, or how about this, have them make a snow making machine.

Just take it to a ski resort, they have tons of snow making machines there.

What Doug said. If they film in Southern California in winter, they could build motorized surfboards in one episode and snow blowers in the next (and drive them up the hill to Big Bear for testing).

I still don't know why I left Irvine, California for Redmond, Washington...

Tyson, It's not a freakin endurance contest... it's building machines. I grew up in Buffalo, and though unlike canada we had electricity and heat, I know what harsh whether is like. Don't give me this macho crap... "oooh look at me, I have anti-freeze for blood". There's real logistical problems... and adding an element such as weather cuts down on the complexity of the machine, therefore making the show suck.

Being from Florida, and not having seen snow until I was about 25, I say that they should have one team build a snow making machine, and the other build a snow blower. If they can clear it faster than it can be produced the second team will win , if not the first team wins, and the second will be snowed under. Everyone will be happy, have fun, and the problem about not having snow on the play day will be solved. This is just a joke, as I know that you could not make snow that fast if it is warm outside. The idea of having one team produce something faster than the other can do something with the product isn't a bad idea though. Let's think about how that may be a challenge.
