Stephen Poole is deleting personal opinion posts at Poole's Roost!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

He just deleted two posts by a someone who was telling Cherri her political and personal views are dumb and that she has Body Odor. He deleted TWO seperate ones! Nice Nazi tactic from a former polly. He and his compatriots complain about TB and EZ but when it comes to having free speech at THEIR forum, they are h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e-s.

He deleted the ones in Link. You can tell they have been deleted because Cherri talks to the first deleted post in one of hers.

I hope history records this, but at least you people are now aware of it.

Answers

You omitted any mention of the fact that you inserted a little Javascript bomb in your second reply and attempted to make the post unremoveable. I think THAT'S what has you upset; you thought I wouldn't be able to delete your little trick.

(Actually, it was easy to do, but that's beside the point.[g])

Your second post was NOT just "personal opinion" and you know it. Nice try. :)

(Unk, if wierd things start happening here, email me and we'll compare notes.)

-- Stephen M. Poole (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), January 09, 2001.

Glad to see you doing it Stephen.

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), January 09, 2001.

This is a perfect example of how the doomers operate. They did this same thing in 99 during the y2k debate. This idiot doomer says "someone" is being deleted (yeah, as if we didn't know it was YOU that posted it ya freak), then cries "nazi/censorship". uh, it didn't work then (but then doomers were always transparent) and it won't work now, gomer.

Take a tip from Squire the Liar, at least she knew how to organize disinformation attacks. Not that they succeeded, but she knows how they are supposed to work. Her or Russ Lipton. That guy was a pro at disinformation as well.

-- (doomers@double.standard), January 09, 2001.

Stephen,

I'm with ya too, guy; and don't let it eat at you. I saw those posts -- really sick. And I e-mailed Cherri about it -- that she should hang in there. You know, at some point, we all have to draw the line with this stuff.

PS -- Sorry I haven't been over there much yet. It's a good forum and I have no excuse -- just haven't got the habit down yet. But I'm workin' on it. :)

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

You guys are a real piece of work. I only tried to insert a fart.wav in that last post and you know it. If I inserted any javascript it was unintentional and I didn't know javascript could bomb anything anyway.

You ARE deleting personal opinion because you deleted the FIRST post too and it didn't have anything but opinion in it! Don't deny it because other people saw it. You people complain of disinformation and fairness and the right to express an opinion and what do you do? You jump on the band wagon and say, DELETE! DELETE!

You are HYPOCRITES!

And Unk doesn't need to compare notes with you. Unlike YOU, he allows personal opinion. The only kind of notes you want to compare is IP numbers and THAT in itself speaks volumns of your character!

-- (I saw@it.all), January 09, 2001.

Why do you think it was sick Eve? I only said that she has smelly armpits, we should take up a collection for some personal products for her and she doesn't have any good political or personal views. How is that so much worse than the porn and cursing and sales posts I have seen around here? Poole said he was only going to delete sales and tax reform posts, not personal opinion. What are you going to start deleting next? Are you going to make up some new rules tomorrow? If you don't want to hear my opinion, why don't you make it a password protected forum?

-- (I saw@it.all), January 09, 2001.

A couple of things here, "I saw":

1. It's Poole's board, remember (even says so in the title)? (Gee, at least it was that type of excuse that was, and still is, being touted as the "logic" behind the selective editing and censorship of TB I -- "It's Ed's Board and he can do what he wants...nyahh" -- and the current outright banning of selected posters at EZ. I see it only applies to certain situations. We won't even discuss the distinctions, albeit somewhat subtle, between the two examples. I'm absolutely stunned by the disconnect. NOT.)

2. Funny how the same nonsensical baseless personal attack **WAS NOT** deleted from the other thread on that board where you posted it (no, I will not give a link; you should be well aware of the threads on which you posted your bullsh*t). So how do you explain that?

BTW, I noticed you didn't attempt to refute any of the points Cherri was making; apparently, the thing that bothers you is simply that she made them. Once again, I'm simply stunned by the disconnect.

NOT. ROTFLMAO.....

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), January 09, 2001.

"I only said that she has smelly armpits"

How do you know? Did you stick your nose in there? No, I think you were smelling your own farts and thought it was Cherri's armpits.

-- quit farting (I saw@it.all smells like farts@he. smells himself), January 09, 2001.

Stephen's forum, Stephen's call.

Same as TB.

Don't like it open a forum and see who shows up.

-- Carlos (riffraff@cybertime.net), January 09, 2001.

From the viewpoint of someone who can't read its mind, "I saw" seems to have no deeper purpose than to see just how abusive and ill- behaved it can be before someone is finally obliged to discipline it. This is the motivation of a 2-year-old.

I'm adamantly against censorship, but that doesn't extend to cleaning up after incontinent infants. That's not censorship anymore than cleaning the cat box is censorship.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), January 09, 2001.

What a buncha hooey. You all hate it when someone points out your less-than-stellar character don't you? I was deleted for my opinion plain and simple. Sure he hasn't deleted my other posts but the sysops at TB started out being selective the same way. You complain about Ed and the sysops but you are too blind to see the same thing happening in your house. Why am I not surprised to see the disconnect? Flint I'm not surprised at your comment either. You are the original cat litter kicker.

Amazing. Absolutely Amazing.

-- (I s@w@it.all), January 09, 2001.

Maybe "I saw it all" should hang out here.

-- Lars (larguy@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

I Saw it All,

I can't recall all that was said, but I know there was more; and I saw two posts. Maybe there was more than two. Anyway, I thought they were sick because I can't conceive of such worthless, gratuitously spewed garbage that was obviously posted only to hurt and embarrass someone (and a kind, very sweet person, I might add) coming from anyone who still had control of their mental/emotional faculties.

Porn, cursing and sales posts may or may not be bad, depending on the context.

And it's not my forum, it's Stephen's. And you have to have standards, and sometimes you have to make some tough calls as forum administrator. In my opinion, though, this shouldn't have been a particularly tough call; actually, it seems more like a good example of an easy call.

I don't know, maybe you ARE in control of your mental faculties. In that case, though, you'd have to be someone of extremely low IQ, drugged or juiced up, or roughly nine to fourteen years old. Or maybe all of the above.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

lol Lars. That place would be preferable to Poole's at this point.

These people have shown their true colors. Poole censors, Flint says out of one side of his mouth that he is against censorship but condones the deletion of opinion when it is mildly put toilet humor. We will let history judge the hypocricy of their words and character. Until then, Cherri get some deodorant and quit passing your political and personal gas around the internet!

:)

-- (I saw@it.all), January 09, 2001.

I saw,

Whoops...I wrote too fast...if you're drugged or juiced up you'd normally not be in control of your mental faculties. But that wouldn't absolve you of responsibility.

Seriously -- please think about what you did and put yourself in the shoes of the other person before you raise that shotgun again.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

History? Do you really think history will have a wit to say about the nonsense that goes on in these forums? You overrate us and yourself my friend.

-- Carlos (riffraff@cybertime.net), January 09, 2001.

Carlos nailed it. These boards are places where friends chat (argue) (discuss) (shout at each other). They're hardly history makers.

But just for the record: I believe I have deleted a total of about 4-5 posts since starting the forum on Greenspun. One (or possibly two?) was a tax protester screed (I no longer delete those, by the way -- it started as a dark joke, and then changed my mind.[g]). Three or four were double-posts by various friends; I deleted the extra copy.

The last one, of course, was the Javascript bomb inserted by this moron. He can call it a "joke;" maybe his intent was harmless. But there were other little things hidden there that he ain't tellin' ya'll about (such as a spoofed IP address, maybe?[g]); let's just leave it at that. :)

One key difference between me and the folks at TB2000 is that I say when I'm do this. The TB2000 censors would change posts, delete posts and make other alterations and then pretend like they hadn't done it. I'll never do that.

In fact, I warned this moron. And had the moron bothered to provide a real email address, I would have notified him by email that I was going to delete his posts.

Moron is playing the wounded dog, but in fact, it's the canine who chewed your slippers and then acted innocent. :)

-- Stephen M. Poole (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), January 09, 2001.

Moron,

Besides, you challenged me. A dumb thing to do. I like challenges.

The last line in your post (invisible to many browsers) was,

Don't even think of trying to DELETE me for expressing my opinion of her, Poole. :)

I didn't think about it.

I did it.

Deal with it. :)

-- Stephen M. Poole (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), January 09, 2001.

Well people, you couldn't ask for a more perfect TEXTBOOK example of what I was trying to say earlier. If I wanted to spend the time and elucidate on the subject I couldn't prove the point better than "Isaw". Take note of this thread, it is a good one on how disinformation works and how extremists twist things. Not a shining example of how to get others to believe your disinformation, but a good outline for a plan to spread it.

Like git, you need to take lessons from yourdon, squire, lipton or north. THEY were good at this stuff, you are a rank amateur.

-- (doomer@double.standard), January 09, 2001.

Yessireebobbee, you SAID you were going to delete me and you did. That is just the point I'm trying to make. I had an opinion and you deleted it.

You are reduced to calling me names now? A little childish for an adult and an admin isn't it? I'd say a few people are thinking you are the moron now. But you are allowed to speak your mind in this forum aren't you?

When I said history, I meant the people who read and participate in your forum in the future. Today is history to people tomorrow and next week etcetera.

One more thing. Your attempt to make me look sinister because I use an anonymizer is ridiclous. The facts are this: I gave my opinion of Cherri. I inserted a fart.wav and I don't know why it screwed up the thread. A little toilet humor is not offensive to most people. YOU people are doing the same thing you accused TB sysops of doing. YOU are ganging up on someone you disagree with. YOU are deleting personal opinion posts. I'd like to remind you that you pollys have said for the last year "YOU CAN SCROLL ON BY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ WHAT YOU DON'T AGREE WITH". You are amazing and pathetic.

-- (I forgot@what my.name was :)), January 09, 2001.

I should reiterate one great advantage of free expression. It makes it easier to sort out the thoughtful from the thoughtless.

As for censorship, the most egregious form is the "delete-on-sight" policy of the old TB 2000. This policy did not even pretend to consider content. The old sysops looked at authorship and quickly dropped the proverbial hammer. EZB makes this process easier by requiring a password.

I have defended EZB because I think a private forum is protected by freedom of association. If Poole has advertised or promised his forum is "uncensored," I suppose he has some moral obligation to stay his hand from the delete key. Ultimately, however, it is the community that enforces standards. If the people posting at Poole's become unhappy with him as a sysop, they'll move somewhere else.

-- Ken Decker (kcdecker@att.net), January 09, 2001.

I have defended EZB because I think a private forum is protected by freedom of association." I agree. That is why I told them earlier if they don't want to hear my opinion they should password protect the board.

"If Poole has advertised or promised his forum is "uncensored," I suppose he has some moral obligation to stay his hand from the delete key." Like I said earlier, he has already shown his character (in this case; lack-thereof).

"Ultimately, however, it is the community that enforces standards. If the people posting at Poole's become unhappy with him as a sysop, they'll move somewhere else." That is precisely why I posted this thead here. I want everyone to know what is going on and allow them to make their own choices.

-- (I saw@it.all), January 09, 2001.

Why come here and complain about Poole? Did you try to express your opinion about Poole as a "moderator" at the Poole forum? If you couched this complaint in temperate terms, Poole may well let your post stand. Then, the participants of his forum could have this conversation....

-- Ken Decker (kcdecker@att.net), January 09, 2001.

Personal attacks are childish. Coupled with bad html tags and a threat to the admin, you got deleted.

I just happened to view the bad tag for your fart sound. You wrote script instead of bgsound. Have no idea of what you were trying to do. Do you?

-- (how@to.fart), January 09, 2001.

I am guilty of bad html tags. That is all.

"Don't even think of trying to DELETE me for expressing my opinion of her, Poole. :)" Is NOT a threat. Nowhere is a threat even implied! If you were not trying to twist the truth you would notice there was a smiling face there. You people are pathetic. Simply pathetic.

-- (I saw@it .all), January 09, 2001.

To clarify threat (poor choice of words on my part, sorry :(

Do you believe me? I put a sorry face there, see it :)

Maybe Poole got a little carried away while fixing the bad html stuff.

-- (how@to.fart), January 09, 2001.

Just a minute. I tried to view my source with two computers with different versions of Netscape and Explorer so I could see what I did wrong. I couldn't see what I wrote and neither could anyone else. You must be Stephen trolling now. Why am I not surprised at that either?

-- (I saw@it.all), January 09, 2001.

I viewed it in Explorer, you wrote I'm not him.

I swear :) Right hand raised and all that.

-- (how@to.fart), January 09, 2001.

Well, I just messed that up royally. By trying to show just a part of the tag it deleted my words.

You wrote (script src= That messed up the script on the page and no one could contribute an answer.

I did view this today and I'm not Spephen.

Believe what you want. I don't lie or pick on people even when I'm an anon :)

-- (how@to.fart), January 09, 2001.

If you read what Poole has written under "about" you will find this statment: You can discuss most anything here, from Y2K (boring nowdays) to the Presidential election. I may delete personal attacks, spam, blatant advertising, or anything else that seems to beg for the bit bucket, but in general, I let this forum freewheel and run on its own. I am not responsible for any opinion expressed here (save for my own).

So he set up his rules and has followed them. I appreciate the removal of the immature insults against me, but I am not insulted by them as I have had to live through worse. It shows me that that there is a problem with the posters mentality, not my problrm.

-- Cherri (jessam5@home.com), January 09, 2001.

I saw@it.all,

What's the mystery? All you had to do was either right click and choose "view source" in Netscape, or save the thread to disk and open it in any text editor.
