Update on Propane Heater

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

A couple of months ago, I asked for input on getting a new heater because we'd been told our burner was on its way out. The tech. couldn't get a blue flame.

I found our heater's manufacturer, Empire, online and an 800#. I called and was eventually patched in to a older gentleman that was so nice and fun to talk to. He explained that our burner was cast iron and was superior to the stainless steel ones now being made. He further explained our to take apart the burner and do a more thorough cleaning.

We had the tech come back out and he did as was explained. When he got the part out of the burner and we looked under it there was a layer of dust that looked like felt.

Our heater now has a lovely blue flame and by God's providence we did not have to shell out a couple of thousand dollars for a new heater and all the new parts and installation. I know some of you could probably replace something like this yourselves but we are not that mechanically inclined. However, we do know more about our heater than a couple of months ago and so does the humbled and emabarassed technician.
