Auto flash compensation on Elan IIe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I had an epiphany at work tonight. Since I don't have the magical CF 16 to disable AFC, could I add +1 FEC to offset the -1.5 FEC at EV13 and above? Sounds like it would work, but it's a long shot. Any comments?

Yes, but there are some complications.

From the FAQ:

"...I don't have my notes in front of me right now, so I can't guarantee that the Elan II's A-TTL/TTL algorithm is exactly the same [as the Elan], but if it isn't, it's close. (BTW, note that I am only speaking of A-TTL and TTL here. The camera calculates flash exposure differently in E-TTL, and the concept of an arbitrary flash-fill ratio does not apply)"

So you might be able to do something with an EZ series flash since they default to A-TTL and TTL on an Elan II, but if you have an EX series flash, I think you'll get E-TTL flash, so you will have no idea what compensation (if any) to use.
