Birds in trouble Cheap wine at fault

The habitats of many species of birds on the Iberian Peninsula are being threatened by the demand by U.K. wine importers for plastic stoppers. The move could force cork farmers out of business or cause them to switch to growing other less environmentally friendly trees. Britain's Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has sounded a warning that the demand for the plastic stoppers will result in the disappearance of bird species such as the booted eagle, the black kite and the turtle dove, as well as affecting other endangered flora and fauna in large areas of Spain and Portugal. RSPB spokeswoman Hannah Bartram said, "The Iberian cork forests have taken thousands of years to develop, but it will take only a few years for them to disappear." The UK is the largest importer of wines in the world. The RSPB believes the demand for the cheaper plastic stoppers originated from the mistaken belief that cork can cause some wines to taste musty.

The flu-cold thing hit hard down here: girlfriend, couple of the guys, several relatives too sick to do much for themselves. Most have to go get meds from the doc to see any progress. I had to get meds for my ears, and I haven't had an ear infection in 15 years. Blah!

We joke about getting some sort of chemtrail illness, but after seeing so many normally healthy people so wretched, I gotta wonder what the heck is going on.
