Sport climbing in Yosemite

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

Hi, We are going to be in the yosemite area for a wedding and are interested in finding information on sport routes in the valley or surronding area. We are looking for multi pitch bolted routes or any good single pitch sport climbs. Any links to web sites, titles of books on the subject, any personal insight or recomendations would be great. thanks joe

probably because they don't have trad gear. There are a "few" sport routes in the valley, but they are ussually very hard. The book to buy is Yosemite Climbs : Free Climbs by Don Reid - and definitely read the intro, which is invaluable to the Yosemite new comer.

"Crest Jewel" is not sport climbing but all you need are draws. "Pole Position" on chapel wall is a fun but short sport climb. Buy a set of nuts and do "Royal Arches" if you want easy multi-pitch climbing. Don Reid's guide is a must if you're new to the valley. Have Fun! -w P.S. excuse "ben", he travels a narrow road.

There is a spot about 45 minutes outside of yosemite (west toward sonora)with good sport routes, pretty hard mostly 5.11+ but some easier and some multi pitch stuff on very good rock. I forget what its called but if you really'd like to know e-mail me and i'll send you back directions etc..
