British series in Canada

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Scrapheap : One Thread

I much prefer the British version of the Scrapheap but it seems that I can only get the renamed american version Junkyard Wars on TLC. Any plans to have the new British series shown in Canada??

There are two 'types' of Junkyard Wars that are shown in North America, one is the British Scrapheap Challenge which has a different name and titles but is the same programme underneath! The other version consists of the Junkyard Wars that have been specially made for the US with US teams & a US presenter, whereas the 'rebadged' Scrapheap Challenge has British presenters. Both of these are shown on TLC.

Hope that helps.

No. No it doesn't help at all. The question was is the British version shown in Canada. Very few americans care for the new version (I haven't seen ANY people saying they do yet). I wish it was shown it Canada. Those of us in states near the border then could perhaps snag the 'real' show, instead of the other. Why waster the $$ on a U.S. version? does it really cosst that much to fly people to England?

They are "wasting" the money on an American half of the show because TLC wants it! Without TLC's financial support we wouldn't be getting twice as many episodes as we will this year! Yes, the show is TWICE AS BIG this year because in addition to the British eps to be filmed with Robert Llewellen, we also got the American eps!

As far as I am concerned this is a win-win year for everyone.

Most people here are complaining that the version with Robert is not available to them anymore. I can only watch the new U.S. version here, so it is not 'TWICE AS BIG' to me or the person who posed this question.

to Bud:

Geeze you are impatient. It is only JANUARY. Wait a few months for RDFMedia to finish filming the British eps first. The American eps were filmed LAST YEAR and they are only being shown NOW. You can expect to see the new British eps sometime later this year (like around June).

If you are in the U.S. and you have cable (TLC), you WILL see both American and British eps this year. Email TLC or RDFMedia if you have any doubts as to this.

It does seem that even the "american" episodes are (were) filmed in the U.K. There were too many old brit vehicles (some right hand drive) that were in the scrapheap that were never imported to Canada or the US. I even noticed in one episode an advertising banner in the background with a Colchester (U.K.) phone number on it.

Give us back Robert he's got more wit in his little finger than that other yank twerp.
