In All Fairness

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I fairness to the JYW cocept, I can appreciate the world's only "stocked scrapyard"... When the Dive Bomber and Flying Machine episodes aired, I was amused that the JYW scrapyard conveniently provided a full-bodied fixed wing aircraft (with fuselage and tail section intact) and MORE than ONE 18-inch propellor (when the RC Dive Bomber crashed, they surprisingly had a BACKUP propellor)... I can accept and forgive a stocked scrapyard. If I may be so arrogant, I could scavange more and different components to build superior machines WITHOUT a stocked scrapyard. What I cannot forgive is the SCRIPTING of mechanical (AND pneumatic, AND hydraulic) designs. I watched this show simply because I enjoyed the APPEARANCE of human ingenuity, regardless of the "Easter egg hunt"... I'm hoping against hope that the Americanized version of JYW is NOT merely a series of REMAKES using the same designs, WITHOUT the fun of REAL creativity.

Like I said somewhere else on this board. I was there and you don't have to believe me, but, there is no scripting. We had no knowledge of any shows except, the cannons and gliders, before we went to England.

Wow, that air powered pumpkin chunker was pretty impressive.
