Brownout hits area around Joliet mall

JOLIET — Lights dimmed in the area around the Louis Joliet Mall on Friday night for more than an hour.

The brownout also affected traffic lights on the far West Side.

The traffic lights popped back on within 10 minutes of going off, police said, and no accidents were reported in connection with the outage.

Stores, movie theaters and residences were plunged into gloom from about 8:10 p.m. until 9:20 p.m., according to the Joliet Fire Department.

Firefighters were called out to investigate several calls stemming from the brownout, but there were no reports of injury or property loss.
