Replacing toilet, how to drain bowl??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We are replacing our toilet in the hopes a new one will work better. Hubby cleaned out all our lines so that is OK. My question is how to get all the water out of the bowl of the toilet when he removes it so it doesn't go all over the floor (like last time). I know there is a way, but I can't remember. Thanks

Connie Just use a plunger as if the toilet was stopped up, that will get most of the water out.

After plunging it out, you can stuff an old towel or newspaper just in the bowl (not past the trap ) to eliminate splash when you lift it off the ring,

I've just always used a paper cup to get as much as possible, then an old sponge for the rest. Incidentally, I HOPE your new one will work better, but I wouldn't bet on it. Don't forget that our government, in it's infinite wisdom, has decreed the size of the flush, in an insane attempt to conserve water. (Our well is just fine, thank you, and I don't WANT to conserve water!). Anyway, many of the newer models are so inefficient that they must be flushed twice, thereby using even more water! I understand there are some newer ones that work well, but I haven't actually seen one. Then again, I've never actually seen Santa Claus either! GL!

Connie, go fill a five gallon bucket with water. Pour this in the toilet all at once. This will cause your toilet to flush without refilling. After that soak up the rest with either towels or a mop. Be sure to turn off the water to the toilet, and flush it once before this to get the water out of the back tank. Then empty the bowl. This is by far the easiest way to empty your toilet. I can't even imagine how a plunger would work.

I always just turn off the water to the toilet and then flush. Gets rid of most of the water.

I've only done it once and dipped and then sopped with old rags. A friend suggested a wet/dry vacuum.
