Should we expect an IS version of 70-200/2.8L any time soon?

We should but when I talked to a Canon rep in August, they said no comment. That was the only thing I asked about that they were tight lipped on.

I can imagine Canon working on it very feverishly though. It would sell very well. I would bet around $1500 USD for a beginning price. As high as $1700 though. Especially if they improve the optics or make it lighter with better manufacturing like the new DO 400 f/2.8L IS.

I've recently heard a number of *rumors* suggesting an announcement in February of 2001 for the 70-200/2.8L IS. At any rate, I'm predicting that a 70-200/2.8L IS lens will cost *at least* $500.00 more than the current non-IS version. Personally, I'm most excited about the upcoming 400/4L IS DO lens, which is rumored to be released sometime in the spring of 2001. I'm predicting a street price of $2500.00-$3000.00 for this first EOS "DO" lens. And who knows--I speculate that Canon could have long since redesigned their highly successful 70-200/2.8L to include IS technology. Why the long delay? I'm merely speculating here, but perhaps Canon has been working on incorporating their new "DO" technology into a new 70-200/2.8L IS? We shall see.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but I did notice that this lense, as well as a few others, are no longer listed on the product site. Think about it.
