The last Y2K buggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread |
I think the last Y2K bug died at my office today. We ran the first test on the year end book. Seems that we had a few 1999 transactions in a file, the few days between last year's cutoff date, and physical year end...After all of the Y2K fix work, they came thru the system, dated 2099.

Yo Sysman! Long time no hear.We only have one minor glitch that will need to be reset after the first of the year.
We will be watching some satellite clocks for how they handle the 366th day as well.
Happy Holidays! See y'all around the 'net!

Sysman,My version of Compuserve's WinCim still stamps "19100" on most of my mail. I get a kick out of it. :)
You know, in retrospect, this whole thing was kindof dumb. I mean, I can understand and forgive a programmer back in the 60's, 70's or even 80's using two-digit math on years. But in 1995? 1997?!? It boggles the mind. What were they thinking?
-- Stephen M. Poole (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), December 19, 2000.
They were thinking, "More Contracts, More Dollars", Stephen. It's as simple as that. (Not all of them, of course; but the mid-1990s was the "time of the contractor"; lots of bucks for those types.)
Happy Holidays, guys.

11 months down the line and the glitches
keep on coming.
- Denver's accounting system is $10 million over
budget and still not working right.- University of Alberta's Y2K update is $14 million
over budget and is in complete morass.- A Quebec-based window manufacturer blames the Y2K
bug for closing its Colebrook plant that employs
between 60 and 125 people.- Nevada DMV gets armed guards to protect their
workers because of angry customers who have to
wait 2 hours in line. This is from their Y2K
update last year.- Crystal River,FL: City officials appear
ready to ask the City Council to spend
tens of thousands of dollars to replace
year-old accounting software that has
been blamed for causing numerous problems
with utility bills.- Police in Flint, MI and Tacoma, WA can't rely
their computers to accurately know if people
that they stop should be arrested. These are just a few of the hundreds of glitches
that have appeared in the last few months.I am not providing links, so don't bother asking :-§

ah spidey, keep the FUD going. The world really DID end on Jan 1 this year, the sheeple just won't acknowledge it! They can't come to grips with the fact that the world IS NOT running on, despite normal everyday computer cock-ups! (*YOU* and *I* know the truth though don't we?)There were NEVER any computer problems BEFORE y2k, and the only ones that exist from NOW ON are *BECAUSE* of y2k!
