For those that are interested:

http://www.southwest.com/hotfares/dec2000_c2c.html

I am not affiliated with SW Airlines, nor is this a solicitation to sell. But it looks like rates are cheap, but desinations limited, on further inspection. Look and see what you view as possibilities. Just a thought.

Hey, 'sumer,

Thanks for thinking of me, but these days I'm so tied up with my Dad's problems it would be very hard to commit to a gig like this, as much as I'd love to.

But for this very reason -- that I've felt so bad about missing the get-togethers, I'm trying to get a recent charcoal portrait (still too paranoid to post a photo) put up. I mean, I figure at least I could -- in some way -- share how I look. Right now I'm getting some help from some friends on the Greenspun HTML Testing site, so you might see it on my thread over there. If not, I could send it through e-mail; that method has already worked.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), December 18, 2000.

Coolsie! I Wanna go!! When? In early spring maybe, remember we need time to plan etc.

I missed Vegas because of my Dad's death :o(

And it would be neeto if I finally met Patricia and Doc on the EAST coast. Though I may get to Vegas before the east meeting.

Eve, email me if you want to talk about it.

-- Gimpy Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), December 18, 2000.

Seeing how eve 'herself' referenced the thread at the html test forum, I could provide the link.

This reaffirms my belief that there are some very nice people around here :)

'sumer,

Like eve, I also can't commit at this time (as much as I would love to meet some very special people from this board and the other one too..)...my father in law is ill. He's been in the hospital for a couple of months now...undergone a triple heart by-pass and by-pass surgery on his left leg. It appears that he might well lose his left foot. How does anyone deal with this? He is 81..no spring chicken. The doctor wants to concentrate on saving his right foot now!

I'm rambling, sorry...I just don't know what to do...I feel helpless sometimes...except for just being there....and at this point no one knows where 'there' is.

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), December 18, 2000.

Peg, I know someone who had bypass surgery from groin to foot at the age of 93. The patient did well and is now 96. The bypass has collapsed. When offered the choice between more surgery or amputation, the patient decided to have as much fun as possible and just die without doing either. It's not easy to "be there", but sometimes that's all you CAN do, and it is appreciated.

I hope there is a gathering sometime in 2001 -- I just got another job.

-- helen (b@r.f), December 18, 2000.

Congratulations, Helen! Whatcha doin' now?

Thanks for your wonderful tale... I enjoyed every word :-)

-- Tricia the Canuck (jayles@telusplanet.net), December 18, 2000.

Tricia, I'm glad you liked it! :)

The new job requires me to SIT DOWN for several hours at a time. Woo hoo!

-- helen (b@r.f), December 19, 2000.

Wow, sit *and* get paid! Imagine that.

'Course, I get paid to sit and watch people sleep... bet you can't beat that! ;-)

-- Tricia the Canuck (jayles@telusplanet.net), December 19, 2000.

Cherri, thanks for your offer. I just might take you up on it. My dad has advanced Parkinsonism and has to be watched all the time. And he gets confused, wants to wander around, is very prone to falling, (with brittle bones, freezing up), etc. I hope you're coping ok with the loss of your dad; I was so sorry to hear of it. If you ever want to talk about it please e-mail me.

Peg...I'm sorry. My e-mail is yours as well if you feel overwhelmed. And thanks for linking to the HTML thread. I guess I could have linked it myself, but I was feeling a little uncomfortable with the whole thing, as I wanted to let y'all know my pic was being put up (because I might not see any of y'all for a while), yet I didn't want to come across as narcissistic.

Helen...very well said. And the patient's choice sounded like the natural and best course. Maybe even an easy call (relatively speaking), given the circumstances.
