A CANON REPLACEMENT FOR THE XL-1/GL-1?

Any news of Canon working on a replacement for the XL-1 and/or GL-1? Sony seems to be eating their lunch right now with their new cameras!

Dirck,

Thanks for passing this message to me regarding the XL1/GL1 questions. At this time Canon plans to continue to market the XL1 and GL1. No replacement models are planned to be announced through the first half of 2001. Any individual thinking about which camera to buy can certainly purchase either the XL1 GL1 with confidence.

It's also worth noting that the XL1 and GL1 sales volumes continue to increase each month. Sales volumes on the Canon models are not decreasing despite the fact that Sony, Panasonic and JVC now all offer competitive models in the 3CCD category. Canon's strength continues to lie in the quality of optics and, in the case of the XL1, the ability to build a system and handle audio differently and better than any competitor.

Thanks.
