Captured video from VCR, now what??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just captured 6 minutes of video with ATI Radeon and save as MPEG 1 file about 280MB. Is this supposed to be this big? How can you fit an hour of video on a CD R then? The video is already in MPEG 1 when I captured it, do I still need to compress it to make it smaller?? I am new to this topic. Thanks.

I'm new at this also but have crossed a few of the bridges that are before you. I have a Radeon card (128 meg) which I a using to capture video on. You need to decide if you want to go with VCD format or DVD. There are software packages which will create either. Getting all the settings for MPEG I correct for what is called "White Book" compliency is a nightmare as ATI does not give you the control you need to adjust all of them. There is a good website which deals with the Radeon and creating VCD's (which will, by the way, run on most stand alone DVD players which are VCD capable). The site www.vcdhelper.com is a good source for starts. Hope this helps a little. Good luck.
