Glad the communist is dead, myself; and that stupid song you've played here is the epitome of his communistic views... piece of filth, was he!

-- One down (millions@to.go), December 08, 2000.

Hey Peg!

That was cool! I thought John Lennon's music was wonderful! I remember when the kids my age were getting Beatle haircuts!! Thanks for the memories, and some of his music is ageless, just like that one!

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), December 08, 2000.

One down, here's hoping you're next.

-- (next@to.go), December 08, 2000.

Just remember that whatever you wish for upon another, comes back to you threefold.

May you receive all that you deserve.

In memory of a Great One.....

-- Patricia (PatriciaS@lasvegas.com), December 08, 2000.

So you like pinkos, huh? I didn't wish anything on him; I just said I was glad that the red bastard was dead. What the hell did he ever do besides make filth acceptable? What an asshole!

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...

You people worship the damndest mini-gods. Pot smoking loonies that give you that warm fuzzy feeling which encouraged anti-military and anti-establishment feelings nation wide. Shed another tear for ole John before you turn 60!

-- Boswell (fundown@thefarm.net), December 08, 2000.

Hey suck my left nut asswipe, Lennon was not a conservative, so what? JESUS was not a conservative either, bung plug.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), December 08, 2000.

Lennon and the Beatles became a phenomenon after my coming-of-age years so I don't relate to him in the same reverent way as most of you. But there is no question that he and McCartny were brilliant. How many daughters were named Michelle because of that song?

A couple of ironies----

John Lennon was killed 20 years ago on Dec 8. Several thousand mother's sons were killed 59 years ago on Dec7 at Pearl Harbor. The "Day of Infamy" will soon be forgotten. Maybe the world would go crazy if it could remember all its tragedies.

Another irony is that son Julian Lennon chose this day to make some critical remarks about John and Yoko.

JULIAN LENNON

Boswell:

You mean that same military and that same establishment that you right-wingers crow about habing too much power-or do you forget that the military are government employees?

Don't you patriots have a problem with government?

Next you will tell us that the Vietnam War was a moral crusade.

You better wait untill it gets lighter on the dark side of the moon so you can check your spellin! And put down the wacky grass cause you don't make any sense. Jeeesuuus H. Cheeeerist!!!!

Thanks Peg!

John Lennon "I" miss ya buddy, Merry Christmas sir.

-- Doc Paulie (fannybubbles@usa.net), December 09, 2000.

Thanks Peg. I've been a Beatles fan for awhile and have most of their records on original vinyl. I even have a copy of the White album on white vinyl, the original Sgt. Pepper cut-outs, the butcher boys cover, and the 45 of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in German. I've always thought that John's cynicism balanced Paul's sentimentality and vice versa.

-- Tarzan the Ape Man (tarzan@swingingthroughthejunglewithouta.net), December 09, 2000.

Reminds me of the time my folks thought they'd surprise me and buy me a Beatle's album. Well, they tried, but I think all they knew was that some kindof bug was all the rage. It was an album by some off-name bug group. I was REALLY disappointed at the time, but now I look back and laugh, realizing they had the best intentions.

Another sentimental thread, eh?

Tarz - I lost the butcher boys cover & a rare Japanese import of John's 'Life With the Lions' after a big break-up during my 'hi fidelity' days. This might be a new topic - what great record or book did you lose to a sibling, friend or lover?

I've still got a 45 of "She Loves You" on the Swan label, imprinted with "Don't Drop Out" {- bagged it from my big sister - once the hit blew over, she lost interest}; & my bubble gum cards from their 'gear fab, luv' days.

Lars,

I've been wading through a box of old family ephemera, trying to sort it out for posterity. In it has surfaced the story of an uncle who lost his life at 19 on the last day of the battle of Yorktown; photos of a couple of cousins in their civil war uniforms; a young great- uncle in the Army in Europe in WWI - and some of the landmarks which survived that war, but not the next; and my dad in the Army corp in N. Africa - then in the Sea Bees in the Pacific theater during WWII...

In one snapshot, I see the equipment on the ship heading towards Okinawa; here's the construction of the camp; the boys in the mess hall; playing baseball for recreation; the Japanese caves in the hillsides; the reinforced fortresses; a shrine; some dead bodies; refugees...

You may be right, the world would go crazy...

Flora:

Memory lane, indeed. I don't even remember the name of the record, but I sent in for it by having a number of Wrigley gum [or some kind of gum wrappers.]

My oldest brother married a girl from Alabama. We lived in Chicago at the time, and I clearly recall him bringing his new bride "home" to meet us all. My dad thought they would be hungry from their travels, but she said, "Oh no...we had a piece'a pie on the way." Dad said, "Well, a piece of pie isn't enough. Have some dinner." It dawned on us LATER that she said "Pizza pie."

Anyway, I had this record [obtained from saving these gum wrappers] and she heard it on my record player and said, "That's my favorite song in the whole world. Can I have the record?" How does one graciously decline such a request of a newly acquired sister-in-law? *I* sure didn't know how. I gave her the record.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), December 09, 2000.

Great story, 'Nita.

Lemme guess - she's still in the family constellation, but that hard- earned 'favorite song in the whole world' is probabbly not.

-- flora (***@__._), December 09, 2000.

Flora:

She's still married to my brother, and I have NO CLUE what happened to the record. I remember missing it at the time, but I remember the disappointment at getting an album from my parents from some other BUG group around the same time as well. The importance of either has long lost its impact.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), December 09, 2000.

Yeah, but you kinda glossed over the BUG thing. I feeling that ANTS are involved in this, somehow...

-- flora (***@__._), December 09, 2000.

{Please mentally stick 'am' or 'have' in there for me, will you? ... Where is that blasted typist, anyway?}

-- flora (***@__._), December 09, 2000.

Perhaps an amendment to the Domestic Goddess Commandment is in order:

Thou shalt not do windows nor keyboard.

All in favor say oy veh!

-- Rich (howe9@shentel.net), December 09, 2000.

Lars,

I don't know if you followed your story to the original link or not:

http://www.julianlennon.com/news/index.html

Julian did come up with a *quotable quote* there:

"You learn from without but you know from within."

-- flora (***@__._), December 09, 2000.

Hey you upstart!

My mama taught me that if I got real good at keyboarding, I;'d spend my LIFE behind a desk! {Yeah, I left the typo in to make you howl, baby}.

-- flora (***@__._), December 09, 2000.

Typo Tease:

As if just being you is not enough to make me howl...
