And a merry Christmas to you too!

My missus has just been made redundant. Company she works for just lost a major contract, been on the cards for a while really. No problem normally but we've just added a v. large wedge on the mortgage and for the first time in our lives actually depended on her salary.

Got till the end of Feb then she's oot on the streets! Shouldn't really be a problem getting a new job but it's still a friggin pain. There may be a pay-off but she only works part time.

Nice of them to phone up with the news rather than tell her in person!

Really sorry to hear that Geordie. It's amazing how often these things happen near Xmas, AND when we can least afford them. It's called Sod's Law, I believe.

Best wishes to Mrs Geordie. Keep your peckers up - something will turn up.

Does she work for our Board of Director's by any chance?

Speaking from experience the only way to look at these situations is positively;

a) They were obviously a bunch of tw**s or they wouldn't have acted in this manner - so better off out of there

b) A payoff (no matter how small) followed by quickly getting fixed up elsewhere means you'll both be quids in.

c) Fresh start, new work-mates etc. etc.

Don't even think about any downside - not worth it. It'll be depressing enough at 4;45 at Library tomorrow!

Ha ha! De B.... no she doesn't .... but that gives me an idea ;-))

Have they got suitably large windows that might attract a rogue brick or firebomb, perchance?

Tell her boss I reckon he's a c**t...that ought to do it

That's so hateful. The boss of the building firm I was with announced one Christmas that he was going to have to lay 3 of us off in the New Year if no contracts came in. This meant that we all had the horrible experience of competing to not be laid off and yet realising that the faster and harder we worked the sooner it was going to happen. Yeaurch! The old timers got really pissed off and tried to insist that the old rule of last-on-first-off should apply, but I volunteered to go as I had the qualifications to go to College. Still hate that bastard, though, and had the great pleasure to hear from my brother that he has finally come unstuck and had his house and cars taken away. If I ever see him sat in a doorway I shall have to stop and laugh. Vindictive, me? You bet!

Full sympathy Geordie, hope you get sorted quickly.

Sorry to hear that, Geordie. Good advice from DSS though! And at least they aren't cutting her off by the end of this month as often happens over here. How's she at defending or goal scoring? I know of a team looking for some temproary help. Could be permanent for the right candidate. Good money, good benefits, travel, etc. ;-)

"the beast thing " eh? Sounds good :)

I blame the bastards who took the contract away.... no names but they produce a games system that start with N and ends with 64! The company mRs Geordie works for were the distribution and suuport centre for Europe... now the nips are moving the operation to Germany I think.

That'll be John Menzies then Geordie, two-bit outfit we tried to get some business from once. as I said earlier, she'll better off out of there. Good luck anyway.

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000

Yep... part of Menzies group. There may be a chance of a decent pay-off! :-)))

I was gonna say, IS IT NTL that she works for? They are not only laying off staff but have cancelled all of the Christmas parties to save money.

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000

Best of luck Geordie.

Ooh that stinks Geordie. (:o|

I`ve no doubt that you any your good wife will turn this around, but in the mean time, chin up - there`s always something good comes out of these things. As Sting says, it takes a few days before the positive angle becomes apparent. (:o)
