Jumping Machine?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I was thinking maybe the teams could build a machine that must launch itself (without explosives) into the air and then go as far as possible. It musn't fly, but use all its stored energy from the ground to get as much distance as possible. Or, as opposed to the farthest jump, a race of jumping machines. That would be interesting.

The Calibrated Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County--a tribute to Mark Twain! Sounds like a perfect challenge for the American version of the show, to be filmed in California!

The course should be long enough to require several jumps, over short walls or other obstacles. The teams would be allowed to reposition and re-energize each machine between jumps (spring, air, etc). Obviously, carrying humans in this mode is not reocmmended :-)
