North Stafford outage blamed on insulator About 4,200 residential and business customers in northern Stafford County lost electrical power Sunday night after an equipment failure, according to Dominion Virginia Power spokeswoman Patty Campbell.

Campbell said the problem was unrelated to the cold weather that hit the Fredericksburg region this weekend.

An insulator at a switch at a substation broke and tripped two circuits, causing the power outage at 6:16 p.m., Campbell said.

Power was restored to 2,000 customers by 7:50 p.m., to another 1,300 customers by 9 p.m. and to the remaining customers by 11:37 p.m., Campbell said.

The outage affected residents and businesses in part of Aquia Harbour, an area stretching from the Stafford post office up to Mine Road and then along Mine Road to State Route 610—including Mine Road Plaza.
