CO: 10 Flats workers contaminated

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

Cleanup at one of the most contaminated Rocky
Flats buildings has been halted after radioactive
plutonium turned up in the bodies of 10 workers.

. . .

The contamination occurred in Building 771,
termed the most dangerous structure in the United
States in a 1994 federal report.

During the Cold War, Building 771 was where bits
of plutonium were recovered from acid used in
making nuclear bombs. The building was the
scene of a devastating 1957 fire in which plutonium
was released.
