help! converting milliliters to ounces

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We are in the process of beginning a science fair project for my junior high age daughter. We are making our own "gel" for petri dishes to grow bacteria. We have a recipe, but it calls for 500 ml. of water and we need to convert it to ounces so we can measure it correctly. How do we do this? Thanks for your help!

There are 30cc in an ounce. Approximately 1000cc in a quart. I believe it is 960 to be exact. 500cc would be 1/2 qt. Hope this helps. My nursing does come in handy for some things!

Sorry, I just reread your question and hope I did not confuse you. CC and ML's are the same i.e. 1000 cc or 1000 milileters equal one quart or more accurately as I said I believe it is 960.

Chances are you don't have vessels calibrated to such a degree that you need to nit-pick about getting EXACTLY 500 mL, but in case you do, I will say that by my calculations 1 quart=946.4 mL and 500 mL=16.9 oz or 2.11 cups.

Yesterday, I went to the store and bought a Peechee folder for my daughter. Not because she needed a folder but because it has all the conversion charts in it. Best 89 cent investment I've made in a long time.

Our pyrex measure approximates 500 ml to 2 cups.

Multiply the number of ml. times 0.03381459390532522 to get fluid ounces. 500 ml. equals 16.907296952662612 oz. Here is a great site for conversions-
