Well, I didn't get into Sundance. There's still Slamdance, and after that Atlanta and Toronto and Telluride and a million smaller festivals, but Sundance really would have been great.

What was the last thing that you really hoped for that you didn't get?

I really, really wanted a Rotary scholarship. I didn't get it. Then, in the process of trying to figure out how to make my application better for next time, I tripped over the Fulbright web pages...and then I really, really, REALLY wanted a Fulbright.

But I got one, so the relevance to this thread ends here.

Not to get all philosophical or anything, but that procedure really helped me become a lot less focused on single goals, because I've reached the point in my life where the things I've done in the past have started adding up in ways I could never have foreseen. Without the Fulbright *and* a couple of summer seminars I attended in 1995 and 1998 *AND* my online journal, I never would have been offered my wonderful job. The reasons are complicated, but the point is that even if you didn't get into Sundance, you may receive benefits from this film that you'd never dreamed of.

But I am still disappointed that you didn't get in, because I think you should ha

One year for Christmas, I really wanted a bulldog which I was going to name Spud. Instead, my sister gave me a spud which she promptly named Bulldog. It wasn't quite the same but ol' Bulldog was very good at "stay" and "play dead."

... and I'll pretend to be your girlfriend if you want to try for the Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, too!

To answer the question, at one point I thought I had a decent swipe at getting into grad school at Berkeley. Ha ha; it is to laugh.

psssst Kymm ... Austin Film Festival next October. And I think there's a film and video festival in New Orleans, too, around the same time. New Orleans is lovely in October.
