Canon Elan IIE ECF/How do you turn it off?

How do you turn off the ECF on the Canon EOS Elan IIE? I suspect that you just select a focusing point manually... On the 7E, there is a selection explicitly to turn it off...

Also, what happens when you put the camera on a tripod? What is the method of selecting a focusing point then?

Push the focusing point selector button on the back of the camera and turn the main dial. Anything other than the eye control icon will be manual, except all three points together, which will let the camera decide what to focus on. As for tripods, use whatever method you need. most of the time, I use eye control, and if I'm not going to be behind the camera during the shot, I turn off AF.

Press the manual focus point button on the back of the camera. If you turn the wheel to any individual point, then only that point will AF; if you turn until all 3 points are set, then you will have automatic (i.e., camera-selected)focus point selection; only when all 3 points flash and the ECF symbol is shown is ECF active.
