Layout of the plain TTL sensor in EOS 50 and other

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I found very different opinions about TTL flash sensors in eos50e some people said that there is 4-point and 3 zones another one, that there are 3 parts connected to AF points whats the true. What is a layout in eos50 and other models? (can be some sort of ascii-graphic) adam

Answers

Both answers are true.

In your mind, divide the focusing screen into 4 verticle boxes. These are the TTL sensors. When you activate the left focusing sensor, flash exposure would be weighted to the two left hand ttl boxes. When you activate the center focusing sensor, the flash exposure would be wieghted to the two middle ttl boxes.

As you see, 4 points (boxes) and 3 zone (weighted to two boxes at a time).

I think the owners manual has a diagram on this but does not explain it very well.

"Both answers are true"

Let me correct myself. The 4 point, 3 zone answer is technically correct, but to complicated to think of in actual use.

The "3 parts connected to AF points", is a more practical way to think of the system for use in the field.
