Plane Makes Emergency Landing on San Jose Highway The Associated Press

SAN JOSE (AP) - A pilot dodged a high school, homes and moving cars in an emergency landing on Highway 87 during rush hour. No one was injured and his plane was unscathed. Computer salesman William Hart, 57, said he was alone on a regular business trip Monday to San Jose in his six-seat Beechcraft Bonanza airplane when the engine quit around 6 p.m. It had developed a fuel-release problem called engine vapor lock.

Hart warned the airport of his distress by radio, then landed on a northbound highway on-ramp. No cars were hit.

"It's just one of those wonderful things where everything just went right," said Capt. Mark Mooney, a spokesman for the San Jose Fire Department.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the highway after the landing to tow the plane the mile and a half left to the airport. http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGA8ARFH3GC.html
