People in sections of Cayce were being asked Sunday to boil their water after a waterline rupture. People who live along the U.S. 321 corridor, including the Starmount and Lloydwood subdivisions and areas south of I-26, were told to boil water for at least five minutes before consumption. The boil notice applies only to these areas and is in effect until further notice, according to city officials.

A 16-inch water main ruptured Saturday on U.S. 321 at the Congaree Creek, according to city officials. The breakage resulted in a total loss of water in the city's two-million gallon tank. The tank is on U.S. 321, adjacent to the Blanchard Machinery Company.

The break has been repaired, and the tank was being refilled Sunday. City officials said it would be at least 24 hours before the tank was completely filled and normal water service and pressure was restored.
