Palm Beach Extension Request Denied

By Karin Meadows Associated Press Writer Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000; 3:55 p.m. EST

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –– Working around-the-clock, Palm Beach County elections officials counted contested ballots for a second straight day, but failed Sunday to gain an extension from state officials.

"We do not believe this extension would prejudice the state in any way in light of the Florida Supreme Court's opinion," Charles Burton, chairman of the county canvassing board, wrote Secretary of State Katherine Harris.

But a few hours later, Clay Roberts, a member of the state canvassing board, said Harris had decided against granting more time.

That left the fate of the countywide recount in doubt, raising questions of whether Harris would accept an incomplete total if officials in Palm Beach County were unable to make it through the last of the contested ballots.

As one Florida politician stated "It would have been gracious of her to extend the deadline."

No doubt about it, that woman's a BITCH! (I'm female so don't get on any sexist bandwagons, please.)

It would have been gracious for the police man not to have given me a speeding ticket, but he did, that bastard!

I get so mad at them, completely ignoring what's right for me, and instead, going by the letter of the law. The law that I asked the Supreme Court for and they gave to me. Now they won't even ignore THAT new law. BASTARDS!

Now they won't even ignore THAT new law.

ROFLMAO!

My guess is that Ms. Harris (who has been vilified and demonized -- justifiably or not -- and is watching her chances of being confirmed as an Ambassador to anywhere go up in smoke) is a mite testy at this point.

Par for the course for "Heiress" the right wing dictactor bitch. Like it is really going to hurt her to let them turn them in first thing in the morning instead of tonight. Sheesh, her political motives are obvious.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Palm Beach County canvassing board choose to take thanksgiving day off? (Unlike the Broward County board which finished their recount within the alloted time.)
