Did your player say it play mp3?
I doubt it 100% because SONY is anti pirate which mean anti mp3 format. Better to buy one that say can play mp3 and cdr, cdrw. Is it dvd/vcd player? If ok then most likely won't play vcd,mp3, or anything on cdr, cdrw. Look at www.vcdhelper.com to see if it can read cdr. If no read cdr, doesn't matter to make read mp3. Can't buy store cd's in mp3 to begin with. Throw it out and get better player.

MP3 has nothing to do with vcd/cd system. MP3 is an entity on its own. Any player that doesn't say it will play MP3 would definity not play MP3 type CD discs. Latest DVD players coming out of China will play DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, multi region DVD and are macrovision-free.

In Singapore, Hong Kong, and the likes, commercial MP3 type CDs are selling very well, and there are not CD-R copies - holding up to 200 songs each.

See http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=0044RA for a way to make MPEG audio CDs that will play on a DVD player (about 3 hours per CD). You first need to make sure that your DVD player will play homemade CDR and/or CDRW discs... I know that Sony DVDs are picky about that..
