Canada: Walmart/TD Bank Debit Card Computer Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

For the past few days, the non-print media has been reporting a problem whereby customers' TD debit cards are "rejected" with "transaction refused" when they use them at Walmart. Then, when they receive their bank statements, the amounts swiped have been deducted from their bank accounts, sometimes more than once. I've searched the usual sources, as well as Walmart's and TD's sites, with no success in finding an online article about the situation. Consumer beware!

Debit-card 'glitch' bills Wal-Mart shoppers twice

Some Local Wal-Mart shoppers are seeing double.

The promise of always low prices didn't seem
to ring true at the register Saturday for
some 25,000 shoppers across Canada who had
purchases charged to their debit cards more
than once.

The problem, it seems, had to do with those
two words we've all become all too familiar
with: technical glitch. It lasted from 11:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Edmonton.

. . .

"As a result of the system glitch, some
customers who attempted to use their debit
card may have been unable to and some
customers who used their debit card at Wal-
Mart may have been debited in error as a
result of the system glitch," Mossman said.
