TTL Inaccurate

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

For quite some time now I've had metering problems with my Asahi model. I was not sure if it was the shutter speed dial connections wearing out, or if it was something wrong with the TTL. The inaccurate readings are between 1 second and 1/15 sec. I swapped TTLs and put on a near new one. The TTL was the cause of the inaccurate meter readings. The faulty TTL is 12 years old and has been used for about 6800 frames of film. I would have thought it would have lasted longer than this. Anyone know if Pentax can repair TTLs? SR

Thanks for the info everyone. I've sent my TTL off to Pentax, Colorado and they tell me that they have calibrated it and are sending it back. The cost was $49. SR

Garrett, it is not just your browser. When I took over this site several years ago I noticed this problem and have tried to correct it twice via my admin page. I've had no luck but will keep trying. It really screwed up the OPTICS thread. Sorry

In an earlier thread I reacted to a similar question. Pentax Benelux in the Netherlands repaired my TTL quick and good. The repairman told me that in a TTL there are 6 different adjustable pot-meters (I don't know the English word), which are all for a different metering range. They calibrate them one by one, so it seems to be a simple operation. I don't know the cost, because it was done together with some other (warrantee) work. I think it can be done within the hour.

Peter may have a possible solution.I'm wondering, though, whether the problem might be the photo diodes themselves. They can oxidize over time, which effectively raises the lower end of their EV range, making them less sensitive. This would likely be a problem with long exposures and well stopped-down apertures. I know this is a problem with many older 35mm SLRs.I've no idea whether Pentax can service(or replace)the meter's cells, if that's really the problem.

Steve, this message is a good example of a strange problem that occurs in the message base. Why is it that your replies are sorted out of order, unlike all the other posters? Or is it just my browser.
