New prosthetic for hip replacement

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

I understand there is a new prosthetic on the market for a total hip replacement that is metal on metal...and a lifetime guarantee. I heard some people are going to Duke University to obtain it. Any truth to this? Also, what is the name of the manufacturer? Have you any experience with it? Thanks! Doug C

Doug, I had a total hip replacement last May. It was a metal on metal hip manufactured by DuPuy Co. I live in Ft. Myers, FL and the operation was performed by a local surgeon. At the time I was told that he was one of the few who were using the metal on metal hip replacement. It's been a little over 6 months and I feel great. I was walking well after 1 month and I'm now working out, including treadmill, 3 times a week. I understand that this hip joint also is a bit larger than normal, thus allowing greater range of motion. Other than very slight stiffness on occasion, my hip feels great. Good luck with your operation.
