East Lake Sammamish Trail - the next initiative?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

Sounds like a good topic and an excellent cause for the next fight. This proposed trail would hurt too many waterfront property owners who are now committed to fight it in any legal way they can think of. Several alternatives and modifications to this trail proposal were considered but none made it King County Executive Ron Sims EIS draft. Impact on the environment, safety considerations, insurance, emergency access and other issues need to be fully studied as well before a decision takes place. Comments?

Not being a waterfront property owner, I don't know the statutes governing access to the waterfront by the public, but how does this trail fit in with that.

I didn't study this one. Was there an alternative that preserves the corridor but that the locals thought was acceptable?

Thanks for the reply.

You can find all the data regarding this issue on KC web site at http://www.metrokc.gov/dcfm/elst.htm. As to your question, one alternative that was proposed and seem to fly with the owners was to use part of lake Sammamish parkway and lake Sammamish place instead of the rail bed where the proposed trail would bisect waterfront properties (in other words, would go between the house and the waterfront).
