Wednesday November 15 6:39 PM ET United Air 747 Makes Emergency Landing in Seattle

SEATTLE (Reuters) - A United Airlines (NYSE:UAL - news) 747 jumbo jet with 227 people on board safely made an emergency landing at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday after smoke filled one of the kitchens, officials and local media said.

The Boeing-made (NYSE:BA - news) jet, which had left San Francisco for Osaka Japan at about noon PST (3 p.m. EST), landed in Seattle and was escorted by emergency vehicles to the terminal where passengers disembarked, local television showed.

No injuries were reported, said airport spokesman Bob Parker.

``It is on the ground safely. There was some kind of odor in the cabin,'' Parker said. No further details were immediately available.

In August, an Alaska Airlines (NYSE:ALK - news) MD-80 with 46 passengers made an emergency landing at the Sea-Tac airport after a motor controlling its horizontal stabilizer failed.
