Poto Poto Scoring System (vote, possibly?)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Okay, I'm the first person (apparently) to play this game, so here goes:

Since the only real score is a total time given if you beat the entire game, I figured there should be some way to score it such that your score goes up (1) the farther you get and (2) the quicker you advance.

The scoring is as follows:

For each stage you complete, you get 1000 points. (Do NOT include the last stage unless you've beaten the game in this recording.) Then, take your total time in seconds and subtract this from the total.

A few examples:

Die on first level: Don't bother submitting, it'll be a negative score.

Die on second level at 2:15: 1000x1 - 135 = 865 points.

Die on second level at 3:30: 1000x1 - 210 = 790 points. (Not a misprint, just an unfortunate side effect of this scoring system... if you don't like how the game is going, suicide would be your best option...)

Die on third level at 5:20: 1000x2 - 320 = 1680 points.

And so on...

Anyway, if anyone has a better way of scoring this game, I'm welcome to ideas.

You should not count the time of the last level, only count the time clocked at the end of each level completion. If you die on your final level late, it should NOT reduce your score.

For instance, what if someone takes a very long time in the last stage and is "nearly" able to win but just misses, this should not be scored less than someone who simply dies at the same last stage quickly...

If you like this method, you current score should be changed from 771 to 872, since your first level ended on 2:08 (128 seconds).

We've used this method (not including time subtractions for final stages not compelted) for neodrift and it's worked well.

This is also good because people who submit a first level score, can be scored as zero since they don't get the bonus points for compelting a level and they don't subtract the time of their last level not compelted.

also this game is a prety slow one, i hope everyone uses auto frameskip when recording or the "slowdown" police will be on them.

Thanks. I'll get around to changing it... or maybe just submitting a new recording.
