Has anyone changed their vote as a result of this board?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I know there were folks who changed their mind on Y2K either way as a result of reading this board. With the election tomorrow, it seems there are totally rigid positions on either side.

My thought is that the last few days have shown that most of us just like to argue, regardless of the outcome of the argument.

Yeah? You got proof of that or are you just blowing smoke? Put up or shut up, jackass.

I'll let you know AFTER I cast my vote.

Translation: still undecided.

Living away down in the southern ocean area, american politics has never been a big concern for me. Until the election sarted being a popular topic on this board I didn't even know that USA was looking for a new president, let alone anything about the candidates or their policies.

However, if I was an american citizen then this board would have convinced me that there is a candidate who runs a relatively clean campaign (if any politician can that is), and I would vote for the Tree.

Yes, as a matter of fact I have...

I'm writing in FS for President on my ballot.

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), November 06, 2000.

Hmmm, put um up!!! I'll fight cha like a man w/2 hands tied behind my back....Well, I'll even bite your damn ankles.

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), November 06, 2000.

I started out a-fire for Gore. I wanted to vote with the hip dudes like Cher, Madonna, Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore. But the Gore troll (Shrubya-this and Shrubya-that) was such a turn-off that I have decided to go with Bush.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), November 06, 2000.

hmm

You and what army? My hands are registered as a deadly weapon.

Sumer-

Thanks, darling. I knew I could get at least one. Remember my slogan: Anyone can do whatever they want whenever they want.

Lars,

THanks for your input.

"I wanted to vote with the hip dudes like Cher, Madonna, Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore"

Uninformed idiots such as yourself should stay home tomorrow. What year was your lobotomy performed?

-- (@ .), November 06, 2000.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than have a frontal lobotomy.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), November 06, 2000.

Hey Lars, how does it feel to have your own troll? Puffs up the chest just a little bit, doesn't it?

Having performed a chemical lobotomy upon myself, I highly recommend having it executed surgically. Shorter recovery period and fewer apologies necessary.

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 06, 2000.

Bingo--

I hadn't thought of it that way but now that you mention it, yes I am mighty proud. Buttons burstin' off my hoosier overalls.

FS--

I didn't make a very serious answer to your original question. The answer is NO. I am a Republican who occasionally votes Democrat but not this year. Yes, I would prefer a Republican of more gravitas than Bush but I saw no arguments here that moved me towards Gore. None-the-less, I enjoyed reading almost everyone's opinions, even the trolls. Many of you caused me to think harder about my own judgements and also to appreciate yours.

I care who wins but I don't think that the world will end if Bush is returned to Texan anonymity. Likewise, Gorganites, if Bush wins, the sun will still rise.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), November 06, 2000.

I 'feel' you Lars.

Just one Very Important Question, (for those like moi who are dumber than a rock regarding politics and too lazy to learn):

How can anyone favor republicans when all my life all I've ever heard was Republicans are for the wealthy. Are you all wealthy on this board or have I been taught wrong?

Serious question.

thanks.

-- SERIOUS MOMENT & QUESTION (shh@aol.com), November 06, 2000.

I 'feel' you Lars.

You conjuring again, sumer? Doing some o' dat fancy New Age hocus- pocus? Or just looking for a date with a codger from the Republican side o' da tracks?

Rich

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 06, 2000.

Hard to imagine that anyone would be so weak of mind as to be influenced by anything said on this forum. This election does present two totally separate platforms and surely your mind has been made up long ago. *Mind* being the operative word.

-- I (h@ve.spoken), November 06, 2000.

Sumer--

I can only speak for myself. I was born in a middle class family. My parents were college grads; professionals. The family income was higher than median but we certainly were not rich. I am also a college grad and married a teacher. She is a Dem; sort of an Anita. Jan and I made more than the median but were not rich. In my view, the stereotype of Republicans as rich WASPS and Democrats as exploited blue collar ethnics is 50 years out of date.

If your question was not serious, and you are looking for a date with a mature Republican, then let's talk.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), November 06, 2000.

Hee Hee, Bingo, you are sooooooooooooo wrong :-) (looks around grinning like a cat who swallowed the canary)

I WAS serious Lars, um, sorry :-)

But, back to my original question, thanks for the response Lars, now, bingo, would you like to answer my question? hee hee.

-- Serious Moment (shh@aol.com), November 06, 2000.

My mind never changed, but I did take action and start volunteering my time to my party in part due to this forum and EZ board. It's one thing to spend a lot of time arguing or debating amongst ourselves, but another to go door to door in your own community and ask people for their vote. I hate the word "proactive"..but..it describes the time I've spent out there vs the time I've spent here trying to debate issues. I'm willing to bet in the past two weeks alone, I've managed to bring more votes to Mr.Bush than anyone who posted here.

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), November 06, 2000.

Will kritter monster be rewarded for her diligence and dedication to the cause?

Magic 8-Ball: I see a political appointment in her future.

Ambassador to Kronos, perhaps. Or more likely Ferenginar. Get yourself a strong umbrella, kid.

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 06, 2000.

I want my own Starship command!!!!!

(kritter monster??..was that a dig? I think that was a dig..!)

-- Captain Kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), November 06, 2000.

Not a dig, kritter.

BTW, kudos for behaving like a Jehovah's Witness and offering salvation "if only you vote for MY candidate".

Now THAT was a dig!

(I'm up shit's creek. This is true.)

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 06, 2000.

Bingo,

It's allright to be up shit crick,as long as ya don't have paper paddles : )

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), November 06, 2000.

No, but you must admit a twang of nostalgia for the old TB2000. After all, people posting unsubstantiated reports from anonymous sources and discussing them like they were factual. All we are missing is Diane J. to put the ideas on a new age spiritual basis. :^)

Best wishes,,,,

LOL...Zingo, I was thinking of Jehovah's Witnesses while I was going door to door...honest to God! I have new admiration for them, cause knocking on some strangers door to try and talk with them when you know how much you hate it when someone does that to you...or calling them on the phone...knowing they're gonna like yell at you and stuff.. it was scary. (how's that for a sentance run amok?)

BUT I DID IT!!! :-)

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), November 06, 2000.

>> knocking on some strangers door to try and talk with them when you know how much you hate it when someone does that to you...or calling them on the phone...knowing they're gonna like yell at you and stuff.. it was scary. <<

I sure hope that you had a partner when you were canvassing. It helps a lot, even when you are each working different sides of the street. And as for phone banking - I did 10 or 12 nights of it for my chosen (local) candidate, with nobody yelling at me.

I have to congratulate you, kritter. Real volunteers are what should run campaigns, not 30 second tv ads. Live humans talking to other humans is what makes the democratic system work. Keep up the good work. Even though I prefer that Bush loses, the more people like you who disagree with me and are willing to put themselves out there for him, the more likely he will be to win - and to deserve it, too.

woohoo you go kritter brokovich! =)

Consumer,

It is not about wealthy vs. poor, it is about right vs. wrong. It is not right to tax someone at a higher percentage rate just because they earn more money. It is not right to tax those who make wise choices and work hard, so that those who make poor choices and won't work can sit on their butts watching TV all day long.

This is America, the land of opportunity. Don't people want to go out and work hard, save wisely, and make their children's lives better than their own anymore? Or does everyone in this country just want to suck off of the teat of an ever increasing federal government welfare state?

Anyway, I was born blue collar middle class, but I always aspired to become rich. Between my sense of right and wrong, and my aspiration to become wealthy, I was a Republican in grade school.

-- J (Y2J@home.comm), November 06, 2000.

Dennis:

Or does everyone in this country just want to suck off of the teat of an ever increasing federal government welfare state? You sound like a C of C ad.

Or does everyone want to set on a stash of food with an AK-47? Of course it makes sense. Increasing the disparity in income will lead to social unrest; whether you like it or not. That is why, as a pragmatic person, I support some degree of leveling.

Best wishes,,,,,

Z,

I used to have some respect for your opinions. Your "Dennis" bit changed my mind on that.

You attack the messenger (albeit the wrong one) with your AK-47 quip, and then you show your true elitist colors with your comment about "leveling".

Most Democrat thinking is misguided, but your limousine liberal "throw them a bone so that they don't riot in the streets" thinking makes me nauseous.

-- J (Y2J@home.comm), November 07, 2000.

Denny,

It really bugs you when people see through your act and your new handle doesn't it? Give it up. If it acts like a anti-government gun nut and quacks like a anti-government gun nut, it's an anti- government gun nut!

Except when they are being foster grandparents for the internet baby swap/auction.

Now that we've cleared that up, any comments regarding partial birth abortions?

-- Monkey Spanker (monkeyspanker0@angelfire.com), November 07, 2000.

Z,

Damn dude! I think...I hope...that was beneath you.Leveling? As in leveling the $$$ apportionment??? Is it to keep the natives Quiet? Or just to be Fair? Please explain.

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), November 07, 2000.

Has anyone changed their vote as a result of this board?

Yes, I have. Not giving all the credit to you loonies, but a few of you helped me along. Thanks.

Rich

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 07, 2000.

Bingo, but didn't you say above that you were undecided. So that means you knew your candidate then changed to unsure?

I'm a republican deep down. I vote republican. Can't stand to see my taxes going to druggies who keep getting pregnant for more cash or for the environment based on incomplete data.

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), November 07, 2000.

Technically, (backpedalling fast) I did change from undecided (a write-in vote?) to the guy I voted for this morning.

I hate it when my illogic is tossed back at me! Thanks a bunch, Maria! :)

Rich

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 07, 2000.

Well "I" did change my mind. At the polls, see, there was this cute looking guy passing out pics and he even passed out some extra treats, IF we agreed to vote for his candidate.

I wont say *say* who this particular candidate is but I'll give one hint.....The 'extra' treat was a bong.

Sheesh, I sure hope this helps.

-- guez who (shh@aol.com), November 07, 2000.

and I thought I was fixated on sinsemilla! LOFingL! Was it loaded? Did ya fire it up?

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), November 07, 2000.

Bingo, I love your logic, it's as good as any other... :>

So pass around the bong please!

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), November 07, 2000.

Shuckie dern!!! I allways miss out on the FUN,I suppose the damn thing is empty by now huh : \

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), November 07, 2000.

Puff Puff, PASSED.....to the fellow Bongernites, I salute cha...

As *she* deeply exhales and retires to the couch to watch Bush win.

*sigh*
