One Day To Go! Who and What are going to Win?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

The suspense is killing me. I predict Bush will win, the Republicans will sweep Olympia, and every intiative I favor, will pass overwhelmingly. Any other Opinions out there....?

Bush will win? He can hardly pronounce English words. He probably speaks better Spanish than English.

It looks like Bush will lose Florida, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. he will probably lose Missouri and Washington, too. How do you get elected like that?

Yes, Bush may win the popular vote, but he won't even be close in the electoral vote. Then, his advisers will have to explain (will they explain it in English or Spanish?) to him what the electoral vote is all about, and why winning the popular vote isn't enough. His advisers will fail in their explanation, and Bush will have to call DADDY for consolation.

Most of Bush's support comes from the South, where people, in general, are less educated; teacher pay is the lowest in the nation; racism is rampant; worker safety is a low priority; environmental laws are weakly enforced; etc.

As for Republicans sweeping Olympia, this is true only if the Democrats hire them as janitors. The Republicans are out of touch with the citizens when it comes to woman's right to choose and increasing the minimum wage, for example.

As for initiatives (which you favor) passing overwhelmingly, who cares? As long as the ones I favor pass by one vote, that's all that matters.

Out of Touch? Al should have chosen a better running mate, like Monica. I hear she serves well under presidents... He will never win...

I would concur with Rolex on the president: Alfred E. Newman will probably take it.

As for WA state stuff, I beg to differ. Both of Permanantly Offensive's initiatives will go down: no endorsements, both very constitutionally questionable, and at least 30% still undecided in latest polls. (Undecided folks on any initiative this late will historically vote "no" on election day). Gordon v. Cantwell is gonna come down to the wire -- could go either way (which says something about Slade's viability). Carlson couldnt win against a corpse... dumb decision to have him as the GOP nominee.

On a side note, my parents are both long-time Republicans (Goldwater, Nixon, Reagan) and are voting "no" on both 722 and 45, Locke over Carlson, and the libertarian over Cantwell or Slade. On the Slade issue, they are all thoroughly pissed about his pork-barreling and the Mariners debacle. (ie, Slade defying his jurisdiction and coming to Seattle to write the M's owners a WA state blank check).

To sum-up my predictions: Alfred E. Newman wins, but has coat-tails are severed; name changed to permanent defense; and more pies thrown at Timmy (I'm bakin' mine right now).

Yeah, Warren does have a good point. The Math is just right for an electoral win/ popular loss for Al Gore: Small, sparsely populated states overwhelmingly supporting Bush, large states that could go either way. If the big states barely go Gore's way, you will all see such an occurrance.

Two more predictions:

1.) If the above scenario takes place, prepare for a MASSIVE anti- electoral college campaign by conservatives... Warren is right: Alfred E. Newman (Dubya) might actually learn a civics lesson.

2.) If Dubya does win, and his past starts to be scrutinized (ie, more DUI's, non-diet coke, Pilot shinanigans, general nitwit stuff), prepare yourself for "THE VAST LEFT-WING CONSPIRACY"

The is no right or wrong... only partisan.

Taking a brief moment....

Bush wins, both nationally and locally.

Locke wins.

Gorton wins.

Koster, Hastings, Nethercutt, Dunn, Baird, Smith, Inslee, McDermott, Dicks win.

Sutherland wins.

Reed wins.

Sonntag wins.

Owen wins.

Murphy wins.

Gregoire wins.

Federally, Republicans keep both the House and the Senate.

State level, Republicans take the House, 53-45.

Republicans take the Senate, 25-24.

Initiatives

713, 728, 732 lose.

722, 729, 745 pass.

SJR 8214 passes.

Jim, that is very close to my prediction. I would also like to see a Republican governor and Loveland replaced by Mike Hewitt. Tommorrow will be an interesting day.

-- Rolex Hoffmann (rolex@innw.net), November 06, 2000.

"I would also like to see a Republican governor."

Well sorry Rolex, but your just not... As I said before, Carlson couldnt win against a corpse. Locke could be caught in an lude act with Mike Lowry and Bob Moorehead tonight, and he would still win.

Wake up out of dreamland, Locke is here for another 4. Next time nominate someone that is electable (ie not Carlson or Craswell)

Garbage in, Garbage out

-- Merciful Nate (pieinyereye@yahoo.com), November 06, 2000.

30% for 722 and 745? I think you are in Dreamland, Nate. I want more taxes, I would never vote for a tax CUT...Wake Up! Both these initiatives are going to pass by a landslide. My polls give them a 100% chance of passing,(minus 0% for error). As for Governor, we need a Republican. Too many of these Democratic Leaders have diminished the Office. We need some honor put back into the position.

-- Rolex Hoffmann (rolex@innw.net), November 07, 2000.

Rolex,

I concur, both initiatives will win. I disagree, however, that elected officials aren't listening. How much did you pay for your tabs?

I knew when I voted for I-695 that it was unconstitutional. I-722 is too. I am still voting for it. Then I will wait to see how the next legislature handles the will of the people. There are some representitives working hard to give the citizens what they want. If that isn't happening in your area, then I am sorry to say, these initiatives won't fix it.

More dialog needs to occur in the Eyman camp on selecting issues and writing these initiatives.

To Marsha,

On a couple of different occasions I've sent Tim e-mails basically saying the same thing you said, lets take it slow and finish one before moving on to another. Lets learn from our mistakes.

I have no problem with the initative process as it seems to be the only way to get the unresponsive politiations to do something other then work on being re-elected. I'm glad someone such as Tim has stepped forward to keep the pols paying attention. All you have to do is remember we now pay only $30 excise tax on our license's and at least for now they have exempted cars, trucks etc. from personal property taxes. Now anyone who thinks the pols would have done that on their own has to be dreaming.

Hopefully I-722 will pass and they will understand that we are not going to go away on this issue and they will put together some meaningful tax reform.

"My polls give them a 100% chance of passing,(minus 0% for error)."

Well, I guess it is time for us all to listen to Mr. Rational. (No thanks dude, I'll stick with Mr. Gallup)

"As for Governor, we need a Republican. Too many of these Democratic Leaders have diminished the Office. We need some honor put back into the position."

Alright, no problem! Just get someone that is ELECTABLE. "Honor", "diminished the office", Bla-bla-bla... Get someone who can win.

Note: Candidates who are either ex talk-show hosts (Carlson), or believe that they are "sent by God" and "want to establish God's kingdom on Earth" (Craswell), WILL NOT WIN (100% no chance, with 0% uncertainty)

Hey but dont blame me, I voted for Hochstatter!!

-- Merciful Nate (pieinyereye@yahoo.com), November 07, 2000.

I for one, would have prefered a Republican Governor. (umm, somebody normal please!) Just to irritate the transportation lobby. But if we have to have a democrat, a do nothing, till you see the polls Governor like Locke is alright.

-- Marsha (acorn_nut@msn.com), November 07, 2000.

Marsha, I like you. We agree on a lot of issues. I just bet you are a Mensa member like me. It is nice to know that I am not alone in saying what is right and what needs to be said at this time. If the politicians in Olympia would have listened to the people instead of their Pacs, there would be no need to go to an initiative solution. I truly enjoy your comments. Have a nice day.
