another popcorn question (OK to feed unpopped to chickens & goats)?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Someone just gave me 8 pounds of unpopped popcorn. I don't generally eat popcorn, but I was wondering if it is ok to feed it unpopped to chickens or goats.

Since it has such a hard shell, I would think cracking it first would be best. If you have a good grinder, I've heard it makes good cornbread, but it's so tough it's hard on some cheaper mills.

If you can't crack it for the chickens, try sprouting it. Sprouting grains helps raise their digestablity a lot, and with popcorn it may really be needed.

Paul is right. We buy popcorn and use it to pop or grind into cornmeal. Tastes much better than the old, dry stuff you find at the store.
