Experience with Sprint's print brightener

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

I've been using the Sprint system for a while but have not tried their print brightener. Wondering if anyone could describe their experience with this product. The website makes it sound like the product provides an alternative to print bleaching... just wondering. Thanks all in advance !

It is not an alternative to bleaching. It causes the print to reflect UV light into the visible spectrum, just like embedded optical brighteners. But according to Louis Nadeau it will break down after prolonged exposure to UV. I have have had a bottle for years, but was always leery of it because I have serious doubts about its archival quality. Sprint claims that it helps protect the print from harmful UV radiation, but they don't offer any real evidence for the claim. I wish we could get Wilhelm Research to investigate this product.
