Add Gore to the "List of the Fallen". Does it count if we cannot turn up police blotters in time? You know the Republicans haven't been waging a dirty tricks campaign and so they may not want to play, but seems like some of Gore's "friends" who are NAMED...don't seem to mind shedding a little "light" (oops, tee hee, pardon the pun) on the subject......OOOOhhh yes, and Pot IS and WAS illegal. Presidential material? Well, of course! If he didn't inhale...party one dudes!

Gore Friends Recount Multiple DUI Incidents

A former close friend of Vice President Al Gore says they once drove from Nashville, Tennessee to Memphis while under the influence of illegal drugs.

Worse still, another Gore friend says the vice president drove his car while high on drugs as he worked the police beat for Nashville's Tennessean newspaper.

The explosive accounts were first cited earlier this year by Newsweek reporter Bill Turque in his investigative biography, "Inventing Al Gore" -- but the news has been assiduously avoided by the mainstream press ever since.

John Warnecke, who has described himself as Gore's best friend during the 1970s, told Turque that Gore's drug use during that decade was extensive, an account which starkly contradicts Gore's own claim that he smoked marijuana only on an "infrequent and rare" basis. Gore has told reporters that he stopped using the drug by 1972.

But based on what Warnecke and another source who declined to be named revealed about Gore's drug use, Turque reported:

"(Gore) remained an enthusiastic recreational user throughout the 1970s, during his newspaper career and up until his first congressional campaign in 1976.

"They remember him smoking dope as often as three or four times a week; after-hours at Warnecke's house; on weekends at the Gore farm, where they sometimes lit up and canoed the Caney Fork (river), on an impulsive road trip to Memphis for a barbecue; and even once, according to an anonymous friend, in his car cruising the police beat for the Tennessean."

"He smoked as much as anybody I knew down there and loved it," Warnecke told Turque.

Despite Warnecke's account and similar reports by other Gore friends, the vice president has never been asked about allegations that he drove a car while under the influence of illegal drugs. Warnecke says that Gore's drug habit sometimes included smoking opium-laced "Thai sticks."

Warnecke says he lost contact with Gore after he won the 1976 congressional race and initially believed his friend had stopped using drugs.

But in September, Warnecke told Tennessee talk radio host Phil Valentine that since he went public with his account of the vice president's heavy drug use, two more Gore friends have told him that they continued to supply the presidential candidate with marijuana right up until he joined the Clinton-Gore ticket in 1992.

Newsmax.com-that bastion of objective journalism. ROTFLMAO. I do not believe a word that rag says.

Well, I don't believe Flynt as the liberal's voice of reason either. At least Newsmax found a name to attach to their blurb.

Liberals and reality rarely mix well....

I heard from a former friend of George W. Bush, that he used to fry up small children on the Bar-b-que and eat them. "Mighty tasty," he used to say. It's true. I just read it on the internet.

HEE HEE ^^^^ I KNEW it, Gore enjoys a good party. Lit up, canoed, impulse 'munchy' trip to Memphis for a BBQ!! Damn, my kind of guy.

Bet he likes hot tubz too :-)

Come on, why all the hype? HOW MANY ON THIS BOARD "EVER" smoked pot? Had the munchies? Drove to BBQ?

Sheesh talking bout nit-picking....

Consumer,

It's not really that he smoked pot, it's that he is such a hypocrite for having his camp leak the Bush DUI info at this time.

-- J (Y2J@home.comm), November 03, 2000.

Okay, so then it is 'not' the fact that he has illegally smoked pot. (sheesh what a relief, I was in a quandry :-)

As for 'it' being leaked, well, now, I say, JUST WAIT....cuz what comes around DOES go around and Gore will surely get his. And soon, is my prediction, cuz Bush aint got much time to rattle ol Gores skeletons before Tuesday.

J:

The Gore "camp" has had nothing to say about this DUI thing. As for this "leak", it was a VERY slow leak. Limbaugh has been telling his listeners to expect a "BOMB" to fall this week on Wednesday or Thursday. He said, "Don't worry. The GOP knows about it."

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), November 03, 2000.

Anita: And isn't it just so perfect? Let's see; Rush knew, the GOP knew.....yet it was a "Democrat" who leaked it?

If I had a conspiring mind.........

" You know the Republicans haven't been waging a dirty tricks campaign and so they may not want to play"

Where have you been for months anyway? If you believe the republicans have not been playing dirty tricks you probably believed Y2K was going to cause power outages or more....

the reporter who found the DWI story overheard three lawyers in a Texas courthouse laughing and backslapping each other about it. Apparently GW's past history is not a secret to those in the legal profession down there. How Gore is supposed to manage to get those lawyers in that position and in front of that reporter is beyond me, but I'm sure the Bush campaign is preparing an explanation of exactly that. (Thanks Paul)

George W. Bush drivers license was changed and his record purged. If this wasn't him trying to hide something I don't know what is. Why wasn't he honest about this? Why only yesterday did his spokeswomen finally admit he has been arrested 3 three times. The DWI, once for stealing and one time for being drunk and disorderly at a football game.

Drinking is legal, nothing wrong with it. Done it myself. But drinking while driving can kill people, it is not excusable. I got a DWI myself in 1983, had to spend a night in jail (now that's a story unto itself). BUT why didn't he admit it in the beginning?

What else is he hiding? His press person was asked if he had abused any other substances, she said the standard "He has admitted he made mistakes in the past". Geeze, the answer was not no. I wonder why? And smoking marijuana is a LOT different that smoking crack.

Hi Cherri, glad to see you back.

Can you explain what you mean by smoking marijuana is ALOT different than smoking crack?

Do you think Bush or Gore has smoked crack?

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), November 03, 2000.

Consumer:

I think Cherri was referring to Bush's cocaine use. It wasn't crack. He could afford the good stuff. [grin] Anyone want to volunteer to count his nose hairs?
